core machine learning tasks related to production.\n\nAs a tool this means MLDOCK's goals are:\n- Provide tooling to improve the ML development workflow. ✅\n- Enable portability of ml code betwen platforms and vendors (Sagemaker, AI Platform, Kubernetes, other container services). ✅\n- Lower the barrier to entry by developing containers from templates. ✅\n- Be ready out the box, using templates to get you started quickly. Bring only your code. ✅\n- For any ML frameworks, runs in any orchestrator and on any cloud. (as long as it integrates with docker) ✅\n\nWhat it is not:\n- Service orchestrator ❌\n- Training Scheduler ❌\n- Hyperparameter tuner ❌\n- Experiment Tracking ❌\n\nInspired by [Sagify](https://github.com/Kenza-AI/sagify), [Sagemaker Training Toolkit](https://github.com/aws/sagemaker-training-toolkit) and [Amazon Sagemaker](https://aws.amazon.com/sagemaker/).\n\n## Getting Started\n\n## Set up your environment\n\n1. (Optional) Use virtual environment to manage dependencies.\n2. Install `dotenv` easily configure environment.\n\n```\npip install --user python-dotenv[cli]\n```\nnote: dotenv allows configuring of environment through the `.env` file. MLDOCK uses ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES in the environment to find your `DOCKER_HOST`, `DOCKERHUB` credentials and even `AWS/GCP` credentials.\n\n3. Create an .env with the following:\n\n``` .env\n\n# for windows and if you are using WSL1\nDOCKER_HOST=tcp://127.0.0.1\n\n# for WSL2 and linux (this is default and should work out of the box)\n# but for consistency, set this dockerhost\n\nDOCKER_HOST=unix://var/run/docker.sock\n```\n\nnote: Now to switch environments just use dotenv as follows:\n\n```\ndotenv -f \"/path/to/.env\" run mldock local build --dir \u003cmy-project-path\u003e\n```\n\n## Overview of MLDOCK command line\n\nThe MLDOCK command line utility provides a set of commands to streamline the machine learning container image development process.\nThe commands are grouped in to 3 functionality sets, namely:\n\n| Command Group        | Description           |\n| ------------- |:-------------:|\n| container    | A set of commands that support creating new containers, initialize and update containers. Also, provides commands for created new MLDOCK supported templates from previously built container images. |\n| local | A set of commands to use during the development phase. Creating your trainer, prediction scripts and debugging the execution of scripts.|\n| registry | A set of tools to help you push, pull and interact with image registries.|\n\n\n\n## Create your first container image project\n1. Install MLDOCK\n\nThe pip install is the only supported package manager at present. It is recommended that you use an environment manager, either virtualenv or conda will work.\n\n```bash\npip install mldock[cli]\n```\n\n2. Setup local config for the mldock cli\n\nThis command sets up mldock cli with some nice to have defaults. It may even prompt you for some set up.\n\n``` bash\nmldock configure init\n```\n\n3. Initialize or create your first container\n\nYou will see a some of prompts to set up container.\n\n```bash\nmldock project init --dir my_ml_container\n```\nnote:\n- Just hit Return/Enter to accept all the defaults.\n\n4. Build your container image locally\n\n```bash\nmldock local build --dir my_ml_container\n```\n\n5. Run your training locally\n\n```bash\nmldock local train --dir my_ml_container\n```\n\n6. Run your training locally\n\n```bash\nmldock local deploy --dir my_ml_container\n```\n\n## Putting your model in the cloud\n\n#### Push to Dockerhub\n\n1. Add the following to `.env`\n\n```\nDOCKERHUB_USERNAME=\u003cyour/user/name\u003e\nDOCKERHUB_PASSWORD=\u003cyour/dockerhub/password\u003e\nDOCKERHUB_REGISTRY=https://index.docker.io/v1/\nDOCKERHUB_REPO=\u003cyour/user/repo/name\u003e\n```\n\n2. Push your container to dockerhub\n\n```bash\nmldock registry push --dir my_ml_container --provider dockerhub --build\n```\n\nnote: The flags allow you to stipulate configuration changes in the command.\n`--build` says build the image before pushing.
