Introduction\n\nThis configuration file has several features, including line numbers, syntax highlighting, and support for code snippets.\nIt also supports writing in LaTeX via the AUCTeX package.\nIt uses Prot's (aka Protesilaos Stavrou) beautiful EF-themes package.\n\n## Why use this approach\n\nThe default version of Emacs on Schooner is too old to support the current version of yasnippets.\nThis is the most popular package for managing code snippets in Emacs.\nIt is hard to work in Emacs without it.\n\nThe current major release of Emacs is now available in Anaconda.\nAnaconda makes installing Emacs on remote machines a breeze.\nI installed Emacs version 29 using Mamba in January 2024.\n\n## Precaution\n\nPlease keep your Emacs use while working in a login node.\n\n\n\n## .emacs.d\n\nThe default storage site for this file is `~/.emacs.d/init.el`.\nEdit the path near the top of *init.el* if you use a different location.\n\n## Organization of init.el\n\nThe `init.el` file has three sections:\n\n- Configuration for the *package* package and the repositories of packages.\n- Basic configuration without extra packages.\n- Configuration of specific packages listed in alphabetical order.\n\n## Subfolders in .emacs.d\n\nI store my manually installed packages (e.g., git cloned from GitHub repos) in `~/.emacs.d/manual-packages`.\nI store my snippets in `~/.emacs.d/snippets`.\n\n## Tramp\nYou can always do lightweight editing of files on schooner with your local Emacs by logging in with the tramp package in Emacs.\n\n\n## Update
