commit](https://img.shields.io/github/last-commit/mychewcents/e2e-encryption)\n\n## Overview\n\nThe primary aim of this package is to provide easier End-2-End encryption for the `client-side` web applications. This package is a wrapper around the original `tweetnacl` NPM package and uses its functions and object definitions internally.\n\n## Installation\n\nYou can install `e2e-encryption` via a package manager:\n\n[NPM](https://www.npmjs.org/):\n\n```\n$ npm install e2e-encryption\n```\n\nor [download source code](https://github.com/mychewcents/e2e-encryption).\n\n## Usage\n\nInternally uses the _x25519-xsalsa20-poly1305_ algorithm, that has been implemented by `tweetnacl` package.\n\n#### new E2E(publicKey, privateKey, options)\n\nGenerates a new random key pair for object if `publicKey` or `privateKey` arguments are empty and returns it as an object:\n\n```javascript\nconst instance = new E2E('', '', {});\n```\n\nAttributes and function calls supported by the object:\n\n```\n{\n  publicKey: ...,\n  privateKey: ...,\n  Encrypt: (plainText, receiverPublicKey, options),\n  Decrypt: (cipherText, senderPublicKey, options),\n}\n```\n\n`Options` attributes allows you to set the flag to use same symmetric keys for the same client everytime.\n\n```\n{\n  useSameKeyPerClient: true / false\n}\n```\n\n#### Encrypt (payload, receiverPublicKey, options)\n\nGenerates the encrypted text using a symmetric key generated / used automatically in the internal execution which depends on the local `options` object passed above or the global `options` object, that was used during the instance creation.\n\n\u003e NOTE: The `payload` should always be a `JSON` object.\n\n```javascript\nconst encryptedText = sender.Encrypt({ Hello: 'World' }, receiverPublicKey, {\n  useSameKeyPerClient: true,\n});\n```\n\n`encryptedText` contains the payload that was encrypted and is appended by the Symmetric Key, used to encrypt the payload, encrypted by the `sender's private key` and `receiver's public key`.\n\n```\n\u003cEncrypted Payload\u003e.\u003cEncrypted Symmetric Key\u003e\n```\n\nLocal `Options` object passed here takes precedence over the global `Options`.\n\n#### Decrypt(cipherText, senderPublicKey, options)\n\nGenerates the decrypted text by extracting / using the symmetric key automatically which depends on the local `Options` object passed or the global `Options` object that was used during the instance creation.\n\n```javascript\nconst DecryptedText = receiver.Decrypt(\n  '\u003cencrypted payload\u003e.\u003cencrypted symmetric key\u003e',\n  senderPublicKey,\n  {\n    useSameKeyPerClient: true,\n  },\n);\n```\n\n`DecryptedText` is the `JSON` object that was encrypted.\n\n```\n{ Hello: 'World' }\n```\n\nLocal `Options` object passed takes precedence over the global `Options` passed.\n\nThe function will throw an error if:\n\n- Payload has been tampered with\n- Encrypted Symmetric Key has been modified\n- Pass the option to use already present symmetric key but the payload was encrypted using a different symmetric key\n\n## Development and Testing\n\nInstall NPM modules needed for development:\n\n    $ npm install\n\nTo build minified versions:\n\n    $ npm build\n\n### Testing\n\nTo run tests:\n\n    $ npm test\n\n## In Progress Tasks\n\n- [ ] Allow for import of symmetric keys that might have been defined already\n- [ ] Better error handling\n- [ ] Most customizations for the symmetric keys and private/public keys\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fmychewcents%2Fe2e-encryption","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fmychewcents%2Fe2e-encryption","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fmychewcents%2Fe2e-encryption/lists"}
