These observations form the basis\nof the field known as the \"solar-stellar connection,\" which seeks to\nunderstand the mechanisms for the production of magnetic field in\nstars and their dependence on fundamental properties such as mass,\nluminosity, etc., as well as to understand the place of the Sun's\nmagnetism in this context. sunstardb aggregates and organizes results\npublished in the literature into one place in order to accelerate\nresearch efforts in the solar-stellar connection.\n\nsunstardb consists of the following components:\n\n * postgreSQL database\n * python APIs for interactive access\n * TODO: a web front-end for basic reporting of database contents\n\nMore information and announcements may be found at https://www2.hao.ucar.edu/sunstardb\n\nAn example can be seen in github by clicking the .ipynb files above,\nor from [this\nlink](http://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/NCAR/sunstardb/blob/master/sunstardb%20long%20example.ipynb).\n(Note that the interactive tables do not work in these links, but do\nwork when running the jupyter notebook server locally by following the installation instructions below.)\n\n## Requirements\n\nsunstardb requires the following packages:\n\n * [psycopg2](http://initd.org/psycopg/)\n * [astropy](http://www.astropy.org)\n * [astroquery](https://astroquery.readthedocs.io)\n * [jupyter](http://jupyter.org)\n\n## Installation\n\n1. Install the requirements listed above and ensure they are in your python environment.\n1. Download the [latest release of sunstardb](https://github.com/NCAR/sunstardb/releases/latest)\n1. In a terminal, change directory to the release downloaded above.\n1. Fetch the configuration file using one of the following options:\n   * Using `wget`:\n\n   `wget --user-agent=\"Lynx/0 libwww-FM/0\"  'https://goo.gl/h1WH2A' -O sunstardb.cfg`  \n   * Using `curl`:\n\n   `curl -L --user-agent \"Lynx/0 libwww-FM/0\" 'https://goo.gl/h1WH2A' \u003e sunstardb.cfg`  \n   * Or, if neither of the above utilities are installed, using your\n   usual web browser.  Go to http://bit.ly/sunstardb_user and save the output\n   to a file named `sunstardb.cfg` in the top-level folder.\n1. `export PYTHONPATH=$PWD:$PYTHONPATH`\n1.
