All Rights Reserved.\n\n## Introduction\n\nThe UX/Spoke tool is designed to help you explore many of the different\nusability tools out there. It is designed to force you to approach it\nin a certain way-- what questions am I asking now-- and spur you to\nconsider other tools that you may not be using.\n\nThis product was provoked by working with people and teams that found\none tool and hammered it to death--\n\n* \"How do we add metrics to this?\",\n* \"What do our metrics tell us to do next?\"\n* \"Let's do usability testing every week.\"\n* \"Let's make sure we're talking to our users every week.\"\n\nAlthough none of those are necessarily bad ideas, it's worth stepping back\nto get the big picture.\n\nGo to http://uxspoke.com to check it out.\n\n\n## Technical Notables\n\nIt's all Javascript, using Canvas for the wheel. I'm not sure I meant to\nmake a lotto wheel, but I stumbled across one, thought it would be fun to\nbuild (but probably not usable)... and here we are. I think there are probably\nother interfaces that would be more intuitive, but what the heck-- is it\nusable _enough_?\n\nI use Csster (http://github.com/ndp/csster) and jQuery (http://jQuery.com).\nI don't use jQueryUI (except for a single easing function, which-- to be honest--\nwould be good to factor away).\n\nI also used this as a playground to learn about:\n\n* more canvas functionality and animations\n* trig\n* easing in jQuery (and in animations in general)\n* HTML5 fonts\n* color calculations and developing a \"color factory\" Javascript helper.\n* different Ux tools (duh)\n\n\n## Research Areas\n\nI use my side project to pursue research and educational interests:\n\n*Micro-apps:* This project fits into my investigation into \"micro-apps\"\nWhat can I build in just a few hours that is useful in its own right?\nI used to have 24 minute BART ride and challenge myself to find \"bite\nsize\" pieces of code to exactly fit the window.\n\n*Randomness in UIs:* where can randomness be incorporated into UIs and add\nvalue? In UX/Spoke, questions are distributed randomly on the wheel on each\npage load, and it is spun to reveal a different question. Many earlier\niterations involved randomizing colors as well, but this proved too much--\nat least for me with my rusty visual design chops.\n\n*Visual Design:* I'm also working on being a better visual designer.\n\nComments, thoughts always welcome,\nAndy","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fndp%2Fuxspoke","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fndp%2Fuxspoke","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fndp%2Fuxspoke/lists"}
