Setup environment variables\n\nFirst, you need to set two environment variables for Clerk's SDK. Go to the API Keys page and start by copying the Frontend API key. Then, add it a .env.local file in your application root, with the name `NEXT_PUBLIC_CLERK_FRONTEND_API`:\n\n```bash\n# Replace [frontend-api-key] with your actual Frontend API key\necho \"NEXT_PUBLIC_CLERK_FRONTEND_API=[frontend-api-key]\" \u003e\u003e .env.local\n```\n\nNext, go back to the API Keys page and copy the Backend API key. Then, add it in the same .env.local file, with the name `CLERK_API_KEY`:\n\n```bash\n# Replace [backend-api-key] with your actual Backend API key\necho \"CLERK_API_KEY=[backend-api-key]\" \u003e\u003e .env.local\n\n```\n\n### 2. Run the development server\n\n```bash\nnpm run dev\n```\n\nLastly, open [http://localhost:3000](http://localhost:3000) with your browser.\n\nYou can start editing the page by modifying `pages/index.tsx`. The page auto-updates as you edit the file.\n\n[API routes](https://nextjs.org/docs/api-routes/introduction) can be accessed on [http://localhost:3000/api/hello](http://localhost:3000/api/hello). This endpoint can be edited in `pages/api/hello.ts`.\n\nThe `pages/api` directory is mapped to `/api/*`.
