Purchasing the code-signed release version of PowerKey will allow you to run the app without modifying your Mac's Gatekeeper security settings.\n\nPurchasing PowerKey also supports continued development of the app!\n\nPowerKey can also be installed by cloning this repo and building the app via Xcode.\n\n![PowerKey app on desktop](https://raw.github.com/pkamb/PowerKey/master/etc/images/desktop_app_icon.png \"PowerKey app on desktop\")\n\n## Does not prevent Shut Down!\n\nYour computer will still sleep or shut down if you **hold** the Power key.\n\nBe careful! PowerKey works best if you use a firm, hard tap to press the power key.\n\nDon't hold the power key. Tap it!\n\n## Does not remap other keys *to* Power\n\nPowerKey remaps your Power key to output one of the key replacements below.\n\nThis app does not remap other keys to function as a Power key.\n\nPowerKey cannot be used to remap any keys other than the Power key.\n\n## Key Replacements\n\nChoose from one of the following Power key replacements.\n\n - Delete (forward)\n - No Action\n - Delete (backspace)\n - Page Up\n - Page Down\n - Home\n - End\n - Help\n - Clear\n - Escape\n - Tab\n - Return\n - Enter\n - F13\n - Script or Apple Script\n  \n![PowerKey replacements](https://raw.github.com/pkamb/PowerKey/master/etc/images/power_key_replacements.png \"PowerKey replacements\")\n\n## Frequently Asked Questions\n\n#### Pressing the Power key doesn't always work.\n\nApple has made mode-switching keys such as Caps-Lock and Power somewhat harder to accidentally press:\n\n \u003e [Mac Notebooks: Caps Lock modified to reduce accidental activation](http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1192)\n\nYou must *firmly* press the key for half-a-tick longer than a normal keypress for it to be recognized.\n\n#### The display is turning off!\n\nPowerKey doesn't modify the behavior of *holding* the power key.\n\nDepending on how long you hold the power key, this may result in your display turning off, the computer going to sleep, or a forced shutdown.\n\nWhen using PowerKey, be sure to only press the power key with a firm, hard tap.\n\n#### But my MacBook has an Eject key!\n\nThe Eject key has been replaced by a Power key on the newer Macbook, Macbook Pro, and Macbook Air models that do not feature an optical drive.\n\nBut PowerKey **does** work with the Eject key as well, so you're in luck.\n\nYour laptop's metal Power button (in the chassis) will actually work with this app as well, but it's up to you to decide if that's desirable.\n\n#### I'm using OS X 10.9 Mavericks, and my Mac immediately goes to Sleep.\n\nIn OS X 10.9 Mavericks, tapping the power key *immediately* puts the computer to sleep.\n\nThis behavior has been corrected in later versions of OS X, so please take the time to upgrade from Mavericks if possible.\n\nIf using Mavericks, you will need to run an additional command to enable PowerKey. Please see [Issue #14](https://github.com/pkamb/PowerKey/issues/14) for more information.\n\n## Support\n\nIf you have any issues or suggestions, please [create a GitHub issue](https://github.com/pkamb/PowerKey/issues):\n\nhttps://github.com/pkamb/PowerKey/issues\n\n## Credits\n\nPhoto of Macbook Pro keyboard by Kārlis Dambrāns:  \nhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/janitors/10037328385/\n","funding_links":[],"categories":[],"sub_categories":[],"project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fpkamb%2Fpowerkey","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fpkamb%2Fpowerkey","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fpkamb%2Fpowerkey/lists"}
