Alternatively, append the blocklist to your `/etc/hosts` file\nfor hard-blocking sites.\n\n## Why did you make this?\n\nNowadays, I get all my social media updates using RSS feeds: using\n[newsboat](https://polarhive.net/dots). I block Facebook, Reddit, Twitter,\nYouTube \u0026 other mainstream social media in this blocklist.\n\nI can browse and search articles locally, in pure plain-text. Paired with\nnewsboat macros, I can archive videos with yt-dl, maintain a weekend binge-list\nor save articles for-later. I don't like recommendation engines when I'm\nbrowsing. I want things to be static \u0026 not disturb my [workflow](https://polarhive.net/blog/rss-feeds/).\nI've blocked news sites, streaming sites, e-commerce and sites that\nhave anti-user behaviour — à la tracking, recommendation engines that\nkeep you hooked. Want to go Cold Turkey? — block websites\nsystem-wide by appending the blocklist to your `/etc/hosts` file.\n\nNote: Unblocking sites takes a bit more time as you need to clear your local\nDNS cache / rebooting.
