an invaluable mechanism for many software projects, especially\nthose intended to run as local or network services.  And increasingly, as\ntechnologies like Docker gain in popularity, those messages are commonly sent\nto the console, rather than to some file.\n\nAutomated testing suites are another invaluable mechanism of modern software\nprojects.\n\nBut when your software logs to the console, the \"noise\" from its messages can\nmake your test output difficult to read—particularly if you develop with a watch\nset up that automatically runs your tests each time you modify one of your\nsource files.\n\nBut if you could get all your logging messages to write to stderr, you'd be\nable to enjoy clean test output by running the tests with a command like this:\n\n```sh\n# capture log messages to a file\n$ npm test 2\u003e./messages.log\n\n# discard log messages entirely\n$ npm test 2\u003e/dev/null\n```\n\nAnd that's what I've designed this package to do for your project's tests.\n(That is, assuming your project uses [Winston](https://www.npmjs.com/package/winston)\nfor its logging. 😉)\n\n\n## Getting Started\n\nFirst off, this is , you'll naturally want to add the package to your project:\n\n```sh\n$ npm i --save-dev winston-testified-console\n```\n\nAssuming your project's test suite already has a \"bootstrap\" script (if not,\nand you don't know how to set this up, see [here](./docs/AddTestingBootrap.md)),\nadd the following line amongst its require statements:\n\n```js\nrequire('winston-testified-console')();\n```\n\nAnd run your tests, sending stderr to `/dev/null`:\n\n```sh\n$ env NODE_ENV=testing npm test 2\u003e/dev/null\n```\n\nThat was easy, right?  At least in theory; your project will likely require a\nbit more work to get set up, so let's take it from the top.\n\n\n### Configuring Testify\n\nThe more complex your project is, the likelier you'll need to do a bit of\nconfiguring.  The `winston-testified-console` supports two optional arguments:\n\n- `target`, which references _what_ to \"testify\" console output for.  This can\n  be a `winston.Logger` instance, a `winston.Container` instance, an array of\n  instance of either type (can be uniform or a mix), and the `winston` instance\n  itself (default value).\n\n- `isTesting`, which is a callback that should return `true` whenever console\n  output ought to be \"testified\".
