To build images with \"Bullseye\"-version,\nuse the \"bullseye\"-branch.  To build images with \"Bookworm\"-version,\nuse the \"bookworm\"-branch.  The build host should probably be\nof the same version your target image is.  As of May 2024,\nour main production version is Bullseye and Bookworm\nis under active development.\n\nAfter cloning the repository, you should also update\nsubmodules (unless the repository was cloned with parameter --recursive):\n\n    git submodule init\n    git submodule update\n\nTo setup build host, run (with sudo or as root):\n\n    sudo make setup-buildhost\n\nTo build Puavo OS image, run:\n\n    make rootfs-debootstrap\n    make rootfs-update\n    make rootfs-image\n\nAfter successful build, the built image can be found by\ndefault from /srv/puavo-os-images\n\nRun `make help` to get help.\n\nNote: As the build process scouts some parameters from the runtime\nenvironment, building it under a puavo-os session might require\nsome manual steps not yet documented here. Building in e.g. a\nfresh Debian Bookworm virtual machine works with the steps listed\nabove. Due to build process using a ramdisk /tmp, the virtual\nmachine should have at least 16 GB of RAM for successful build.\n\n## Using Puavo OS images\n\nPuavo OS image is not very useful in itself.\nPuavo OS is designed to be used with a Puavo Web\nserver, that is used to manage user accounts\nand devices.\n\nA Puavo OS image can be used to boot a system with PXE\nin case a suitably configured network boot server\nis available.  To install a host with a removable drive,\na separate _installation image_ is required.\nYou can try using ``puavo-make-install-disk`` to create\none, or simply check out https://puavo.org for\nsome example installation images.\n\nAn installation image can be booted in \"live\"-mode\nto test hardware compatibility with Puavo OS.\nWhen booted in \"normal\" boot mode, an installation\nshould be performed.  To install, a login to\na Puavo Server is required to make it possible to\nmanage the host.  In case a Puavo Server is not\navailable, the instructions in\nhttps://github.com/puavo-org/puavo-standalone\ncan be followed to setup a test server.\nDo not use the test server in production before\nunderstanding how it works and setting up\npasswords properly.\n\n## The \"config\"-directory\n\nThe \"config\"-directory contains various configurations for the image.\n\nThe file \"config/rootca.pem\" is a CA-certificate that will be copied to\nimage \"/etc/puavo-image/rootca.pem\" at image build time.  The default file\nis compatible with the CA-infrastructure set up by Opinsys, the company\nbehind Puavo, BUT if you are running Puavo on your own, non-Opinsys\ninfrastructure, you should replace that with your own CA-certificate.\n\nThe values in \"config/puavo_conf.json\" override default values\nfor puavo-conf variables.\n\n## Copyright\n\nAlmost all files here are copyright (C) Opinsys Oy.  They are licensed\nunder GPLv2+, that is, either version 2 of the GPL License, or (at your\noption) any later version.\n\nThe exceptions to that are most files under rules/gnome_shell_extensions,\nwhich are subject to copyright and license terms specified on the extension\nfiles themselves.  Also, the \"jetpipe\"-script is taken from The LTSP Project\nfiles, and is copyright by Canonical Ltd. (likewise GPLv2+).  The SSL\nlibraries in rules/primus/files are from the OpenSSL Project and are under\nApache License Version 2.0.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fpuavo-org%2Fpuavo-os","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fpuavo-org%2Fpuavo-os","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fpuavo-org%2Fpuavo-os/lists"}
