Please go to [PyPSA-Eur](https://github.com/pypsa/pypsa-eur) to run sector-coupling studies for the European energy system with PyPSA. This repository is now deprecated!**\n\nPyPSA-Eur-Sec is an open model dataset of the European energy system at the\ntransmission network level that covers the full ENTSO-E area.\n\nPyPSA-Eur-Sec builds on the electricity generation and transmission\nmodel [PyPSA-Eur](https://github.com/PyPSA/pypsa-eur) to add demand\nand supply for the following sectors: transport, space and water\nheating, biomass, industry and industrial feedstocks, agriculture,\nforestry and fishing. This completes the energy system and includes\nall greenhouse gas emitters except waste management and land use.\n\n**WARNING**: PyPSA-Eur-Sec is under active development and has several\n[limitations](https://pypsa-eur-sec.readthedocs.io/en/latest/limitations.html) which\nyou should understand before using the model. The github repository\n[issues](https://github.com/PyPSA/pypsa-eur-sec/issues) collect known\ntopics we are working on (please feel free to help or make suggestions).\nThe [documentation](https://pypsa-eur-sec.readthedocs.io/) remains somewhat\npatchy.\nYou can find showcases of the model's capabilities in the preprint\n[Benefits of a Hydrogen Network in Europe](https://arxiv.org/abs/2207.05816),\na [paper in Joule with a description of the industry\nsector](https://arxiv.org/abs/2109.09563), or in [a 2021\npresentation at EMP-E](https://nworbmot.org/energy/brown-empe.pdf).\nWe cannot support this model if you choose to use it.\n\nPlease see the [documentation](https://pypsa-eur-sec.readthedocs.io/)\nfor installation instructions and other useful information about the snakemake workflow.\n\nThis diagram gives an overview of the sectors and the links between\nthem:\n\n![sector diagram](graphics/multisector_figure.png)\n\nEach of these sectors is built up on the transmission network nodes\nfrom [PyPSA-Eur](https://github.com/PyPSA/pypsa-eur):\n\n![network diagram](https://github.com/PyPSA/pypsa-eur/blob/master/doc/img/base.png?raw=true)\n\nFor computational reasons the model is usually clustered down\nto 50-200 nodes.\n\n\nPyPSA-Eur-Sec was initially based on the model PyPSA-Eur-Sec-30 described\nin the paper [Synergies of sector coupling and transmission\nreinforcement in a cost-optimised, highly renewable European energy\nsystem](https://arxiv.org/abs/1801.05290) (2018) but it differs by\nbeing based on the higher resolution electricity transmission model\n[PyPSA-Eur](https://github.com/PyPSA/pypsa-eur) rather than a\none-node-per-country model, and by including biomass, industry,\nindustrial feedstocks, aviation, shipping, better carbon management,\ncarbon capture and usage/sequestration, and gas networks.\n\n\nPyPSA-Eur-Sec includes PyPSA-Eur as a\n[snakemake](https://snakemake.readthedocs.io/en/stable/index.html)\n[subworkflow](https://snakemake.readthedocs.io/en/stable/snakefiles/modularization.html#snakefiles-sub-workflows). PyPSA-Eur-Sec\nuses PyPSA-Eur to build the clustered transmission model along with\nwind, solar PV and hydroelectricity potentials and time series. Then\nPyPSA-Eur-Sec adds other conventional generators, storage units and\nthe additional sectors.\n\n\n# Licence\n\nThe code in PyPSA-Eur-Sec is released as free software under the\n[MIT License](https://opensource.org/licenses/MIT), see `LICENSE.txt`.\nHowever, different licenses and terms of use may apply to the various\ninput data.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fpypsa%2Fpypsa-eur-sec","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fpypsa%2Fpypsa-eur-sec","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fpypsa%2Fpypsa-eur-sec/lists"}
