Economics\n\n## A Workshop in HCMC\n\n### November 2016\n\n#### [John Stachurski](http://johnstachurski.net/)\n\nEconomists are increasingly using modern open source computing environments\nsuch as [Python](https://www.python.org/) and [Julia](http://julialang.org/).\n\nThis workshop will cover the basics of these modern programming\nlanguages, and how you can use them for research and policy analysis in\neconomics.\n\nWe assume that participants know some economics but do not know Python.\nThe level of programming will be introductory.\n\n\n### Instructions\n\n\n*  Before coming, please install [Anaconda Python](https://www.continuum.io/downloads) on your laptop\n\n    * Python + the main scientific libraries\n    * Free from http://continuum.io/downloads\n    * Choose the Python 3.5 version\n    * Make it your default Python distribution\n\n* Optionally, you might also like to install [Julia](http://julialang.org/downloads)\n\n    * Follow instructions for your OS\n    * Some extra info [here](http://julialang.org/downloads/platform.html) if you need it\n\nPlease be sure to bring your laptop to the workshop.  \n\nPlease make sure that you have wireless access.\n\n\n\n\n### Notebooks\n\n* [First steps](http://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/QuantEcon/HCMC_workshop_2016/blob/master/first_steps.ipynb)\n* [Application: Supply and Demand](http://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/QuantEcon/HCMC_workshop_2016/blob/master/supply_and_demand.ipynb)\n* [Application: Equilibrium](http://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/QuantEcon/HCMC_workshop_2016/blob/master/equilibrium.ipynb)\n* [AR1 simulation in Julia](http://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/QuantEcon/HCMC_workshop_2016/blob/master/ar1_plots_julia.ipynb)\n* [AR1 simulation in Python](http://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/QuantEcon/HCMC_workshop_2016/blob/master/ar1_plots_python.ipynb)\n\n\n\n\n### Useful Links\n\n* [QuantEcon lectures](http://lectures.quantecon.org/)\n* [Cheat sheet](http://cheatsheets.quantecon.org/)\n* [AWS server]  [link to be added]\n\n\n\n### Extra Software \n\nOptionally, consider installing \n\n* a modern browser (e.g., Chrome / Firefox / Vivaldi) \n* a good text editor such as [Atom](https://atom.io/)\n* [Git](https://git-scm.com/downloads)\n\n\n\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fquantecon%2Fhcmc_workshop_2016","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fquantecon%2Fhcmc_workshop_2016","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fquantecon%2Fhcmc_workshop_2016/lists"}
