Either clone with `--recursive` or run `git submodule update --init --recursive` after cloning.\n\n## Getting started\n\nClone this repository:\n\n    git clone https://github.com/redhat-iot/iot-cloud-stack-ece2018 --recursive\n\n**Git for Windows:** If you are using Git for Windows, then you need to execute the following\n                     command __before__ cloning the Git repository.\n\n    git config --global core.longpaths true \n\nMove on to: [steps](steps)\n\n## Be prepared\n\nBefore you come to Ludwigsburg, you should prepare yourself. The following sub-sections help you\nbring what you will need for this tutorial.\n\n### GitHub Account\n\nThis tutorial requires a GitHub account, which you can use to fork repositories and\nset webhooks to those forks. You can, of course, create a new GitHub account.\n\n### A Linux machine\n\nYes, Linux is awesome. Bring your Linux notebook including:\n\n  * A web browser\n  * Either\n    * Command line `git`\n    * Or the Eclipse IDE with Git support\n  * The classics\n     * Like `bash`, `curl`, `sed`, … nothing fancy\n\n### But I got a Mac!\n\nIt's actually less about the kernel, more about the command line tools. *sigh* ...\n\nGNU/Mac OS X will work as well, as long as you still bring the tools mentioned above.\nIt might be helpful to install GNU Sed using `brew install gnu-sed`.\n\n### And what about Windows?\n\nDon't count on playing Minesweeper during the tutorial 😉\n\nWith Windows you need to prepare yourself. You will still need the basics already\nmentioned: web browser, git, command line classics.\n\nWindows doens't bring those out of the box, so you need to take care of that\nyourself.\n\nThere are a few choices you have:\n\n  * Run Linux virtual machine – That brings you back to [A Linux machine](#a-linux-machine), but you finally\n    got a nice little Linux box on your machine.\n  * Install [Git for Windows](https://git-scm.com/download/win) – Git for Windows allows you to install a \"Git Bash\", which\n    has everything this tutorial needs. Might be a good alternative over a full blown virtual machine.\n  * Run a docker container – `docker run -ti centos:7` and installing a few extras should work as well. But\n    from what I know, this boils down to running Docker with a virtual machine again.\n  * Go for the Windows 10 Linux subsystem – Yes, hell froze over once again. And now Windows acts like the Linux kernel.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fredhat-iot%2Fiot-cloud-stack-ece2018","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fredhat-iot%2Fiot-cloud-stack-ece2018","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fredhat-iot%2Fiot-cloud-stack-ece2018/lists"}
