About\n\nThese are my notes about the [Seeed Studio Odyssey X86J4105 board](https://wiki.seeedstudio.com/ODYSSEY-X86J4105/).\n\n## Firmware/BIOS/UEFI\n\nSee [firmware](firmware/).\n\n## USB keyboards\n\nBe aware that (non)-composite USB keyboards can only be used to enter the BIOS\n(by pressing the DELETE key) when Fast Boot is disabled (which is the default\nafter a BIOS Restore Defaults).\n\n## Poweroff\n\nSee https://forum.seeedstudio.com/t/how-to-completely-turn-off-the-network-interfaces-while-odyssey-x86j4105-is-turned-off/255557\n\n## Poweron (using Wake-On-LAN)\n\nMake sure you enable the Wake-On-LAN feature in the `Chipset` page of the firmware:\n\n\u003ca href=\"firmware-wake-on-lan.jpeg\"\u003e\u003cimg height=\"200px\" src=\"firmware-wake-on-lan.jpeg\"\u003e\u003c/a\u003e\n\nThen you can send a [Wake-On-LAN \"Magic Packet\"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN#Magic_packet)\nfrom a local network interface to one of the odyssey network\ninterfaces mac addresses, e.g.:\n\n```bash\nsudo etherwake -i enp3s0 00:e0:4c:01:93:a8\n```\n\n## UEFI Boot Loader\n\nSince the board ships with Windows 10 pre-installed, the UEFI bootloader\nretains the `Windows Boot Manager` entry as seen by:\n\n```bash\nefibootmgr --verbose\n```\n\nThe command should return the current boot settings, something alike:\n\n```\nBootCurrent: 0001\nTimeout: 5 seconds\nBootOrder: 0001,0002,0000,0005\nBoot0000* Windows Boot Manager\tHD(1,GPT,93faa71b-80e1-42f4-a7dd-0fb3a1c1a75e,0x800,0x32000)/File(\\EFI\\MICROSOFT\\BOOT\\BOOTMGFW.EFI)WINDOWS.........x...B.C.D.O.B.J.E.C.T.=.{.9.d.e.a.8.6.2.c.-.5.c.d.d.-.4.e.7.0.-.a.c.c.1.-.f.3.2.b.3.4.4.d.4.7.9.5.}....................\nBoot0001* ubuntu\tHD(1,GPT,e2daca90-f32f-4d3e-b696-0244329c6551,0x800,0x100000)/File(\\EFI\\UBUNTU\\SHIMX64.EFI)\nBoot0002* UEFI: Built-in EFI Shell\tVenMedia(5023b95c-db26-429b-a648-bd47664c8012)..BO\nBoot0005* ubuntu\tHD(1,GPT,e2daca90-f32f-4d3e-b696-0244329c6551,0x800,0x100000)/File(\\EFI\\UBUNTU\\GRUBX64.EFI)..BO\n```\n\nManually remove the `Boot0000` entry with:\n\n```bash\nefibootmgr --verbose --bootnum 0000 --delete-bootnum\n```\n\nThe command should return the current boot settings, something alike:\n\n```\nBootCurrent: 0001\nTimeout: 5 seconds\nBootOrder: 0001,0002,0005\nBoot0001* ubuntu\tHD(1,GPT,e2daca90-f32f-4d3e-b696-0244329c6551,0x800,0x100000)/File(\\EFI\\UBUNTU\\SHIMX64.EFI)\nBoot0002* UEFI: Built-in EFI Shell\tVenMedia(5023b95c-db26-429b-a648-bd47664c8012)..BO\nBoot0005* ubuntu\tHD(1,GPT,e2daca90-f32f-4d3e-b696-0244329c6551,0x800,0x100000)/File(\\EFI\\UBUNTU\\GRUBX64.EFI)..BO\n```\n\nOr better yet, remove all entries, as in my case:\n\n```bash\nefibootmgr --verbose --bootnum 0001 --delete-bootnum\nefibootmgr --verbose --bootnum 0002 --delete-bootnum\nefibootmgr --verbose --bootnum 0005 --delete-bootnum\n```\n\nDelete the boot order (`grub-install` will re-create it):\n\n```bash\nefibootmgr --verbose --delete-bootorder\n```\n\nThen reinstall the `ubuntu` boot entry with:\n\n```bash\ngrub-install\n```\n\nThe end result should be:\n\n```\nBootCurrent: 0001\nTimeout: 5 seconds\nBootOrder: 0000\nBoot0000* ubuntu\tHD(1,GPT,e2daca90-f32f-4d3e-b696-0244329c6551,0x800,0x100000)/File(\\EFI\\ubuntu\\shimx64.efi)\n```\n\nThen reboot the machine:\n\n```bash\nreboot\n```\n\nAfter reboot, the boot settings should be something alike:\n\n```\nBootCurrent: 0000\nTimeout: 5 seconds\nBootOrder: 0000,0001,0002\nBoot0000* ubuntu\tHD(1,GPT,e2daca90-f32f-4d3e-b696-0244329c6551,0x800,0x100000)/File(\\EFI\\UBUNTU\\SHIMX64.EFI)\nBoot0001* ubuntu\tHD(1,GPT,e2daca90-f32f-4d3e-b696-0244329c6551,0x800,0x100000)/File(\\EFI\\UBUNTU\\GRUBX64.EFI)..BO\nBoot0002* UEFI: Built-in EFI Shell\tVenMedia(5023b95c-db26-429b-a648-bd47664c8012)..BO\n```\n\n**NB** The entries after `Boot0000` are automatically populated by the UEFI.\n\n### UEFI Reboot To Firmware\n\nThe system can reboot to the firmware using:\n\n```bash\nsystemctl reboot --firmware-setup\n```\n\nFor more details see:\n\n* https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemctl.html#--firmware-setup\n* [efi_reboot_to_firmware_supported](https://github.com/systemd/systemd/blob/e7a8f6b66fa3efd298120ef5d6c972d7b4df51c7/src/shared/efi-loader.c#L70-L103)\n  * variables:\n\n```bash\nefivar --name 8be4df61-93ca-11d2-aa0d-00e098032b8c-OsIndicationsSupported --print\nefivar --name 8be4df61-93ca-11d2-aa0d-00e098032b8c-OsIndications --print\n```\n\n```\nGUID: WiFi\n\nThe Wifi/Bluetooth module has two IPEX MHF4 RF antenna connectors.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Frgl%2Fseeedstudio-odyssey-x86j4105-notes","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Frgl%2Fseeedstudio-odyssey-x86j4105-notes","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Frgl%2Fseeedstudio-odyssey-x86j4105-notes/lists"}
