Nano-X's genesis was with the\nNanoGUI project, and is now the primary distribution.\nNano-X currently runs on Linux, UNIX, X11, ELKS, MSDOS, RTEMS\nand bare VGA hardware.  It uses the same device-\nindependent graphics engine built for the NanoGUI project.\nNano-X compiles a sample application and the WinCE \ngraphics api in about 42k.\n\nThe architecture of Nano-X allows it to be ported\nor run on a wide variety of systems.  Cross-compilation\nfor MIPS, ARM and x86 processors is supported. There are currently\nscreen drivers for Linux 2.2.x framebuffers and Linux 2.0.x\nsvgalib, as well as an X11 driver that allows applications\nto be built and tested under X11 before running on the\ntarget platform.  There exists a portable 4-planes VGA driver\nthat will run on bare hardware, ELKS, MSDOS, or RTEMS.\nThere are mouse drivers written for bare hardware, direct\nserial port, Linux GPM driver, and touchpads.  The Nano-X\ngraphics engine is capable of running on any system that\nsupport readpixel, writepixel, drawhline and drawvline,\nalthough more advanced bit blit routines are provided.\n\nNano-X features full RGB color support, optimized\npalette bitmap drawing, and a 3d look-and-feel.\nOverlapped and child windows are supported, with complete\nwindow and client area clipping.  Proportional and fixed\nfonts are supported, along with utilities for converting\nany MS Windows font or .bmp file.
