Open Source Security System\n\n## Note: this is unstable and currently under development \n\n## Overview\n\nThis repository contains everything you need to configure\na self-contained camera security system using open source\nsoftware and the Raspberry Pi hardware platform.\n\n## Dependencies\n\n* Gocv: https://gocv.io\n* PiSugar: https://github.com/PiSugar/PiSugar\n\n## Software\n\nThis build process has only been tested on Ubuntu 22.\n\n### Testing\n\n#### Dependencies\n\n* Build/Install gocv: https://gocv.io/getting-started/linux/\n\n#### Running the tests\n\nThe only comprehensive way to test this before building the RPi images\nand deploying to hardware is to have a development machine with two cameras.\n\nUse `ls /dev | grep video` to find relevant device files for your system. \n\nIn `camera` directory, running `bash build.sh 0 2` should result in two\nwindows that contain the camera feed from the monitor application.\nIf not, fiddle with the two camera numbers to get the right combo\nfor your system. \n\nYou should see movements outlined in red on your two camera feeds.\n\n### Image Build\n\nTo build the software, follow these steps:\n\n* Install test dependencies: `sudo apt-get install libcanberra-gtk-module`\n* The monitor application needs to be built first: `bash build_image.sh monitor`\n* Followed by the camera application: `bash build_image.sh camera`\n\n## Hardware\n\nFor the monitor, you'll need:\n\n* RPi 400 or Model B\n* Screen, I used a touchscreen to simplify usage \n\nFor the camera, you'll need:\n\n* RPi Zero W or Zero 2 W\n* PiSugar 3 battery\n  * https://www.tindie.com/products/pisugar/pisugar3-battery-for-raspberry-pi-zero/\n* A case, unless you prefer to live life on the edge. \n  I'm currently 3D printing the PiSugar cases listed above, \n  and mounting the camera on the outside: https://github.com/PiSugar/PiSugar/tree/master/model2\n* RPi Camera\n  * I 3D printed this camera housing: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1707484\n\n## Development notes\n\n* If you make modifications to the pi-gen process, \n  make sure that your code accounts for both starting \n  from scratch, or resuming the image build from an arbitrary\n  stage.\n\n## Future Development\n\n* Monitor: Add support for capturing video clips on the monitor and saving to a mounted USB drive.
