Special thanks\nto Gabriel Dragone for the invitation.\n\n\n## Abstract\n\nIn this talk I take the opportunity to unravel my career path, to take\na retrospective look on how I got into geoscience and scientific software\ndevelopment, and what motivated me through this road.\nAs being involved in the Fatiando a Terra project, I showcase some of the tools\nwe develop in it, showing how they support my scientific research, how it\nfeedbacks from it, and highlight the importance of its community.\nFinally, I will peak into what the future of science empowered with open-source\nsoftware could look like and how we can start making the change today.\n\n\n## Serving the slides\n\nThese slides were built using [reveal.js](https://revealjs.com/).\nSadly, we cannot open the index.html file in a browser to see them, we need to\nrun a local web server instead.\n\nInstall [livereload](https://github.com/lepture/python-livereload):\n\n```\npip install livereload\n```\n\nor\n\n```\nconda install livereload -c conda-forge\n```\n\nThen start a local webserver by running:\n\n```\npython serve.py\n```\n\nOpen `http://localhost:8000` in your browser to see the slides.
