fm\n\n`fm` is a simple limited backtracking fuzzy text matcher useful for matching\nmulti-line *patterns* and *literal* text. Wildcard operators can be used to\nmatch parts of a line and to skip multiple lines of text. For example this\n*pattern*:\n\n```text\n...A\n...\nD...\n```\n\nwill successfully match against literals such as:\n\n```text\nxyzA\nB\nC\nDxyz\n```\n\n\n## Intraline matching\n\nThe intraline wildcard operator `...` can appear at the start and/or end of a\nline. `...X...` matches any literal line that contains \"X\"; `...X` matches any\nliteral line that ends with \"X\"; and `X...` matches any literal line that\nstarts with \"X\". `......` matches exactly one literal line (i.e. the contents\nof the literal line are irrelevant but this will not match against the end\nof the literal text).\n\n\n## Interline matching\n\nThere are two interline wildcard operators that match zero or more literal\nlines until a match for the next *item* is found, at which point the search is\n*anchored* (i.e. backtracking will not occur before the anchor). An item is\neither:\n\n  * A single pattern line.\n  * A group of pattern lines. A group is the sequence of pattern lines between\n    two interline wildcard operators or, if no wildcard operator is found, the\n    end of the pattern.\n\nThe interline wildcards are:\n\n  * The *prefix match* wildcard `...` searches until it finds a match for the\n    line immediately after the interline operator (\"the prefix\"), at which\n    point the search is anchored. This wildcard does not backtrack.\n  * The *group match* wildcard `..~` searches until it finds a match for the\n    next group, at which point the search is anchored. This wildcard\n    backtracks, though never further than one group.\n\nInterline wildcards cannot directly follow each other i.e. `...\\n...?` is an\ninvalid pattern. Interline wildcards can appear at the beginning or end of\na pattern: at the end of a pattern, both interline wildcards have identical\nsemantics to each other.\n\nConsider this pattern:\n\n```text\nA\n...\nB\nC\n...\n```\n\nThis will match successfully against the literal:\n\n```text\nA\nD\nB\nC\nE\n```\n\nbut fail to match against the literal:\n\n```text\nA\nD\nB\nB\nC\nE\n```\n\nbecause the `...` matches against the first \"B\", which anchors the search, then\nimmediately fails to match against the second \"B\".\n\nIn contrast the pattern:\n\n```text\nA\n..~\nB\nC\n...\n```\n\ndoes match the literal because `..~` backtracks on the second \"B\".\n\nThere are two reasons why you should default to using `...` rather than `..~`.\nMost obviously `...` does not backtrack and has linear performance. Less\nobviously `...` is a more rigorous test, since it cannot skip prefix matches\n(i.e. the next line after the `...` in the pattern) in the literal.\n\n\n## API\n\n```rust\nuse fm::FMatcher;\n\nassert!(FMatcher::new(\"a\").unwrap().matches(\"a\").is_ok());\nassert!(FMatcher::new(\" a \").unwrap().matches(\"a\").is_ok());\nassert!(FMatcher::new(\"a\").unwrap().matches(\"b\").is_err());\nassert!(FMatcher::new(\"a\\n...\\nb\").unwrap().matches(\"a\\na\\nb\").is_ok());\nassert!(FMatcher::new(\"a\\n...\\nb\").unwrap().matches(\"a\\na\\nb\\nb\").is_err());\n```\n\nWhen a match fails, the matcher returns an error indicating the line number at\nwhich the match failed. The error can be formatted for human comprehension\nusing the provided `Display` implementation.\n\nIf you want to use non-default options, you will first need to use `FMBuilder`\nbefore having access to an `FMatcher`. For example, to use \"name matching\"\n(where you specify that the same chunk of text must appear at multiple points\nin the text, but without specifying exactly what the chunk must contain) you\ncan set options as follows:\n\n```rust\nuse {fm::FMBuilder, regex::Regex};\n\nlet ptn_re = Regex::new(r\"\\$[0-9]+?\\b\").unwrap();\nlet text_re = Regex::new(r\"[a-z]+?\\b\").unwrap();\nlet matcher = FMBuilder::new(\"$1 $1\")\n                        .unwrap()\n                        .name_matcher(ptn_re, text_re)\n                        .build()\n                        .unwrap();\nassert!(matcher.matches(\"a a\").is_ok());\nassert!(matcher.matches(\"a b\").is_err());\n```\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fsoftdevteam%2Ffm","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fsoftdevteam%2Ffm","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fsoftdevteam%2Ffm/lists"}
