It keeps track of who bought what, when, and for whom; and\nhelps to settle the bills.\n\n-   [Online documentation](https://ihatemoney.readthedocs.io)\n-   [Hosted version](https://ihatemoney.org)\n-   [Cloud Providers](https://ihatemoney.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation.html#cloud)\n-   [Mailing\n    list](https://mailman.alwaysdata.com/postorius/lists/info.ihatemoney.org/)\n    (to get updates when needed).\n\nThe code is distributed under a BSD *beerware* derivative: if you meet\nthe people in person and you want to pay them a craft beer, you are\nhighly encouraged to do so.\n\n## Requirements\n\n-   **Python**: version 3.8 to 3.12.\n-   **Backends**: SQLite, PostgreSQL, MariaDB (version 10.3.2 or above),\n    Memory.\n\n## Current direction (as of 2024)\n\nIhatemoney was started in 2011, and we believe the project has reached a certain\nlevel of maturity now. The overall energy of contributors is not as high as it\nused to be.\n\nIn addition, there are now several self-hosted alternatives (for instance\n[cospend](https://github.com/julien-nc/cospend-nc/tree/main),\n[spliit](https://github.com/spliit-app/spliit)).\n\nAs maintainers, we believe that the project is still relevant but should gear\ntowards some kind of \"maintenance mode\":\n\n* **Simplicity** is now the main goal of the project. It has always been a compass\nfor the project, and the resulting software is appreciated by both users and\nserver administrators. For us, \"simplicity\" is positive and encompasses both\ntechnical aspects (very few javascript code, manageable dependencies, small code\nsize...) and user-visible aspects (straightforward interface, no need to create\naccounts for people you invite, same web interface on mobile...)\n\n* **Stability** is prioritized over adding major new features. We found ourselves\ncomplexifying the codebase (and the interface) while accepting some\ncontributions. Our goal now is to have a minimal set of features that do most of\nthe job. We believe this will help lower the maintainance burden.\n\n* **User interface and user experience improvements** are always super welcome !\n\nIt is still possible to propose new features, but they should fit into\nthis new direction. Simplicity of the UI/UX and simplicity of the technical\nimplementation will be the main factors when deciding to accept new features.\n\n## Contributing\n\nDo you wish to contribute to IHateMoney?
