It is\ntypically used for storing spectra, images and similar datasets with\nhigher dimensionality. The NDF format is based on the Hierarchical\nData System (HDS) and is extensible; not only does it provide a\ncomprehensive set of standard ancillary items to describe the data,\nit can also be extended indefinitely to handle additional user-defined\ninformation of any type.\n\nNDF is the data format of choice for software distributed by the\nStarlink Project (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory,\nhttp://www.starlink.ac.uk/). It is widely used in the United Kingdom\nastronomical community (for example in the Figaro data reduction\npackage).\n\nThis module provides a perl interface to the NDF libraries\nthat are supplied with the standard Starlink software distribution.\n\n\t\tTim Jenness (t.jenness@jach.hawaii.edu)\n                      12 July 2000\n\nPDL\n---\n\nThe Perl Data Language (PDL) distribution provides a module that can be\nused to read NDF files into it.
