My core competencies are in embedded systems\nand kernel engineering. I am a pragmatic open source advocate and\ncontribute to several open source projects in both professional and\npersonal capacities. I also share most of my [[http://github.com/stsquad][personal code]] and\nmaintain a few small open source projects.\n\n** Skills\nI have a strong track record in development and successful project\ndelivery. I am well versed in hardware development and have taken a\nnumber of heterogeneous embedded platforms from conception to\nmanufacturing. I have an excellent understanding containerisation,\nvirtualisation and hypervisor technologies as well as networking\ntechnologies.\n\nI have a long history of mentorship and outreach work helping develop\nengineers within companies as well working with community schemes such\nas [[https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/][Google Summer of Code]] and [[https://www.outreachy.org/][Outreachy]]. I have also presented work at\na number of conferences including a number of keynotes for the QEMU\nproject. I write technical blog posts both for companies and\ncommunities to showcase developments and plans.\n\n*Languages*: C/C++, Assembly, Rust, Python, Shell, Emacs Lisp\n\n*Architectures*: ARM, x86/x86-64, PPC, SPARC, many more\n\n*Platforms*: Linux (in many forms), Hypervisors (KVM/Xen), BSDs, *not*\nWindows\n\n*Tools*: Emacs, GNU toolchain, GIT forges, ICE's, scopes and logic analysers,\nvarious CI systems, common FLOSS workflows\n\n** Recent Employment\n*** [[http://www.linaro.org][Linaro]]\n\n/December 2022 to Present/\\\\\n*Senior Tech Lead for Virtualisation and Emulation*\n\nI am responsible for the core [[https://linaro.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/QEMU/overview][QEMU team]] responsible for driving the\nevolution of the Arm architecture support in the upstream project. As\na maintainer continue to work with others across the community to keep\nQEMU as an active supported project for a wide variety of use cases. I\nwork with external members and other internal groups to advise and\nproblem solve to support up-streaming of useful features into the code\nbase.\n\nI am also the lead for [[https://linaro.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ORKO/overview][Project Orko]] which is a open project to improve\nthe range and deployments of VirtIO technology as an open abstracted\ninterface for various workloads across multiple hypervisors.\n\n/November 2013 to December 2022/\\\\\n*Senior Software Engineer*\n\nI support and develop new features for various flavours of\nvirtualisation in the ARM eco-system. This predominately involves\nworking directly with the upstream [[http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Main_Page][KVM]] and [[http://wiki.qemu.org/Main_Page][QEMU]] FLOSS projects. My\nfirst project was helping with the initial ARMv8 support for QEMU.\nSince then I've worked on numerous aspects of the emulator including\nenabling [[https://wiki.qemu.org/Features/tcg-multithread][multi-threaded emulation]] and a [[https://wiki.qemu.org/Features/TCGPlugins][plugin system]] for dynamic\nanalysis. I am an upstream maintainer for a number of the QEMU\nsubsystem and have given numerous talks at Linaro and KVM forum\nconferences.\n\n*** [[http://www.cbnl.com][Cambridge Broadband]]\n/November 2011 to November 2013/\\\\\n*Head of Software/Principal Software Engineer*\n\nReporting to the Head of Engineering I was responsible for a team of\nengineers maintaining all software elements (FPGA, Embedded and\nnetwork management) of the VectaStar product. My responsibilities\nincluded balancing the demands on the team of supporting existing\ncustomers, improving the quality of the code base and developing new\nfeatures.
