This software may be used to train your\nfingers to type without looking at the keys. After completing all the\nunits available in this software, one would know the location of the\nkeys on the keyboard through muscle memory and would be able to\neffortlessly use the right finger for each key.\n\n[1]: https://susam.net/quickqwerty.html\n\n\nContents\n--------\n\n* [Use QuickQWERTY](#use-quickqwerty)\n* [Units](#units)\n* [5–6 split vs 6–7 split](#56-split-vs-67-split)\n* [Commands](#commands)\n* [Licence](#licence)\n* [Contact](#contact)\n\n\nUse QuickQWERTY\n---------------\n\nThe current stable version of QuickQWERTY is available at the following links:\n\n* https://susam.net/quickqwerty.html\n* https://susam.github.io/quickqwerty.html\n* https://susam.codeberg.page/quickqwerty.html\n\n\nUnits\n-----\n\nThe typing lessons available in this software are divided into units\nand sections. Each unit introduces a new set of keys to be practiced.\nFor example, the first unit trains the fingers on how to press the\nkeys in the home row. A couple of new keys are introduced with every\nnew unit.\n\nAll units that introduce new keys have five sections:\n\n 1. Grip: Getting used to the keys\n 2. Words: Learning to type words\n 3. Control: Learning to stop abruptly in the middle of words\n 4. Sentences: Learning to type sentences\n 5. Test: Testing your proficiency level in the current unit\n\n\nAdditionally, there are two units that help you to test your\nproficiency level by typing passages chosen from popular books.\n\nOne should move to the next lesson only after completing the current\nlesson satisfactorily. When a lesson is completed satisfactorily, the\nsoftware suggests you to move to the next lesson.\n\nWhile typing one should look at the computer monitor only. Fingers\nshould always be placed on the home row as indicated in the first unit.\nIf any key outside the home row has to be typed, one should return the\nfinger to the home row immediately after striking that key.\n\n\n5–6 split vs 6–7 split\n----------------------\n\nThere are two popular ways to type the ten number keys on the top row.\n\n 1. In the traditional style, `1` and `2` are typed with the little\n finger of the left hand, `6` is typed with the forefinger of the\n left hand and `7` is typed with the forefinger of the right hand.\n In other words, the number keys are split at 6–7 between the left\n hand and the right hand.\n\n 1. In a non-traditional style, `1` is typed with the little finger\n of the left hand, `2` is typed with the ring finger of the left\n hand, `5` is typed with the forefinger of the left hand and `6`\n is typed with the forefinger of the right hand. Thus, the number\n keys are split at 5–6 between the left hand and the right hand.\n\nIn most keyboards, the `6` key is located closer to the `F`. On such\nkeyboards, the `6` key is more accessible to the left hand than the\nright hand. Therefore, many people prefer the traditional style with\n6–7 split. However, there are also many people who prefer the\nnon-traditional style with 5–6 split. Which style you choose depends\non your taste, convenience and the kind of keyboard you have. If you\nare confused about which style to choose, choose the traditional style\nwith 6–7 split.\n\nThis software supports both styles for the number keys. In units 16–20\nwhich introduce the number keys, a link appears below the practice area\nto switch between the two styles.\n\n\nCommands\n--------\n\nAt any point while typing in the input box, you can type an input\ncommand. The following is a list of the supported commands along with a\ndescription of what each command does.\n\n* `restart`: restart the current subunit\n* `reset`: same as the `restart` command\n* `rst`: same as the `restart` command\n* `fix`: remove errors from the input text\n* `xxx`: same as the `fix` command\n\nWhen you type a command in the input box, an error would be displayed\nbecause the software would be expecting you to type the text displayed\nabove the input box instead of the command you are typing. This is okay\nand you can ignore the error and continue to type the command. As soon\nas you complete typing the command, your command would be executed.\n\n\nLicence\n-------\n\nThis is free and open source software.
