The design of the bindings will be changing as\nSwift/C++ Interoperability evolves.\n\n## Trying it out\n\n### Within the Swift compiler project\n\n(This will be updated once the Swift compiler starts using Swift LLVM Bindings.)\n\n### As a standalone project\n\nA [Swift toolchain](https://www.swift.org/download/) is required to build the\nproject. The minimum supported Swift version is 5.9.\n\nSince the bindings rely on LLVM headers, you will need a fresh checkout of LLVM\nlocally. Both upstream LLVM\n([llvm/llvm-project](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project)) and Apple's\nLLVM fork ([swiftlang/llvm-project](https://github.com/swiftlang/llvm-project))\nare supported.\n\nSimilarly to LLVM, CMake is used to build the bindings. To configure the build\nprocess, run the following command:\n\n```\ncmake -G Ninja \\\n      -D CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug \\\n      -D CMAKE_Swift_COMPILER=/Library/Developer/Toolchains/swift-xyz.xctoolchain/usr/bin/swiftc \\\n      -D LLVM_DIR={PATH_TO_LLVM_BUILD_ROOT}/lib/cmake/llvm \\\n      -B {PATH_TO_BUILD_ROOT}\n```\n\nTo build all of the bindings, run:\n\n```\ncmake --build {PATH_TO_BUILD_ROOT} --target all\n```\n\nTo build the bindings for a specific LLVM module (e.g. `LLVM_Utils`), run:\n\n```\ncmake --build {PATH_TO_BUILD_ROOT} --target LLVM_Utils\n```\n\n## Branching scheme\n\n`llvm.org/main` branch tracks the `main` branch\nof ([llvm/llvm-project](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project)).\n\n`stable/YYYYMMDD` branch tracks the corresponding `stable/YYYYMMDD` branch\nof ([swiftlang/llvm-project](https://github.com/swiftlang/llvm-project)).\n\n## Contributing\n\nIf you are working on a feature that you intend to use in SwiftCompilerSources,\nyou should create pull requests against two branches: `llvm.org/main`\nand `stable/YYYYMMDD`.
