Most datacenter operations groups have a good view of their\noverall storage utilization from various SAN and virtualization management\ntools, but relying on these aggregated data points often causes teams to\nunderestimate the storage needs of their applications in the cloud.\n\nWhen taking an _application-centric_ approach to cloud migration, getting the\nresource utilization from each individual server gives you a more accurate view\nof each application's resource requirements in the cloud and ignores the\ntrickery of thin-provisioning from SAN tools.  This allows you to confidently\nplan data replication time, or other migration metrics on an app-by-app basis.\n\n```\n┌ Machine Stats ─────────────┐                           ╔═════════ TIDAL CLOUD ═════════╗\n│                            │                           ║                               ║\n│  CPU, RAM, Storage etc.    │                           ║  - Single Source of Truth     ║\n│                            │   `tidal sync servers`    ║  - Server, Database, and      ║\n│                            │──────────────────────────\u003e║    Application Inventory      ║\n│                            │                           ║                               ║\n│                            │                           ║                               ║\n└────────────────────────────┘                           ╚═══════════════════════════════╝\n```\n\nAs your cloud migration will likely take place over many months or years, it's\nimportant to have current resource requirements throughout your journey. To\naccomplish this, setup `machine_stats` in a cron job or Scheduled Task and\nsynchronize your data on a _daily_ basis to Tidal. You can find more information\nabout it [here](https://guides.tidal.cloud/machine_stats.html#run-machine-stats-on-a-cron-job).\n\n## Table of Contents\n\n* [Machine Stats for Windows](/windows/README.md)\n* [Machine Stats for Unix-like systems](/unix/README.md)\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Ftidalmigrations%2Fmachine_stats","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Ftidalmigrations%2Fmachine_stats","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Ftidalmigrations%2Fmachine_stats/lists"}
