It runs as a daemon and starts serv-\n  er  processes dynamically on requested ports. A server emulates a\n  well-known service by simply sending captured network traffic  to\n  a connected host.\n\n  Many  clients  and particularly attackers will be fooled and send\n  responses to a honeytrap server process. The arriving data is as-\n  sembled to a string and written to a database file. Such a string\n  is called an attack string.\n\n  Honeytrap can parse an attack string for  commands  advising  the\n  server  to  download a file from another host. If a download com-\n  mand is found, the server tries  to  retrieve  the  corresponding\n  file  automatically.  A downloaded file is stored locally with an\n  md5 checksum in its name. Currently, only ftp and tftp  are  sup-\n  ported.  Honeytrap implements its own clients with the aim to be-\n  have as similar as possible than Windows systems. Http  URIs  are\n  recognized  and  logged.  A http download routine may be added in\n  future releases.\n\nINSTALLATION\n\n  Installation of honeytrap is  pretty straight forward.  Just do a\n  './configure  --with-stream-mon=\u003ctype\u003e \u0026\u0026  make \u0026\u0026  make install'\n  where '\u003ctype\u003e' is the connection monitor  type  of  your  choice.\n  Please  refer to the INSTALL file and to the output of './config-\n  ure --help' for further information.\n\nWARNINGS\n\n  Honeytrap is a low-interactive honeypot and therefore detectable.\n  It  is  written  in  C  and thus potentially vulnerable to buffer\n  overflow attacks. Take care. Running in mirror mode is dangerous.\n  Attacks  may  be directed to the attacker, appearing to come from\n  your system. Use with caution.\n\n  The program needs root privileges, but only  for  binding  server\n  processes to well-known ports.
