Therefore, *cocowm* is a tiling window manager\nand in particular is most inspired by the Plan9 acme editor, as well as\nthe Plan B operating system's GUI.\n\nA key differentiation of *cocowm* as compared to other window managers is\nthat *cocowm* is oriented towards receiving high-level commands from the\nuser, such as \"move window to left\", via a keyboard shortcut, which\nmoves a window one column to the left and resizes if space allows for\nit, rather than by manually micro-managing precise placement and size\nusing a mouse.\n\n## Controls\n\n*cocowm* is fully controllable using keyboard and partially controllable\nusing mouse.\n\nEdit keyboard.c to modify default key bindings.\n\n*cocowm* is used best when windows are explicitly created by the user\nusing *cocowm command line* via **Win+Enter** or **Win+Space**.\n\nSo, for example, don't ask your browser to create a new window,\nbut ask *cocowm* to do it.\n\n*cocowm* tries to help in selecting the correct program using the\nfollowing magic:\n\n### Running commands\n\nOpen the prompt via **Win+Enter** or **Win+Space**. Exit the prompt\nusing **Esc** (cancel) or **Enter** (launch).\n\n* **Run URLs:** If no spaces but has at least one '.', prefix the line\nwith \"firefox-esr \".\n* **Run shell commands:** If the line begins with '!', prefix the line\nwith \"xterm -hold -e \"\n\nEdit action.c to modify these.\n\n### Focusing windows\n\n* **Win+Left** Left.\n* **Win+Right** Right.\n* **Win+Up** Up.\n* **Win+Down** Down.\n* **Win+Tab** Previous.\n\n### Moving the focused window\n\n* **Ctrl+Win+Left** Left.\n* **Ctrl+Win+Right** Right.\n* **Ctrl+Win+Up** Up.\n* **Ctrl+Win+Down** Down.\n\n### Actions for the focused window\n\n* **Win+o** Toggle keep open.\n* **Win+m** Toggle minimize.\n* **Win+h** Toggle hide others.\n* **Win+f** Toggle fullscreen.\n* **Win+r** Restart command.\n* **Win+Space** Replace with new command.\n* **Win+Enter** Run new command.\n* **Win+q** Close.\n\n_Minimize_ means window is explicitly hidden and needs to be reopened manually.\n\n_Hide_ means window is temporarily hidden and is shown automatically\nwhen hiding is toggled off.\n\n### Managing the window manager.\n\n* **F11** Restart.\n* **F12** Quit.\n\n## Dependencies\n\n* No dependencies if you're compiling for a normal/sane Unix-like system that\nhas X11 Window System.\n\n## Compiling\n\n\t$ ./configure ~\n\t$ make\n\t$ make install\n\n## Customizing\n\n* Edit Makefile.in and e.g. remove or add compile-time options using -D in\nthe CFLAGS. E.g. see 'WANT_ONE_PER_COLUMN' option.\n* Edit files such as keyboard.c\n* Edit *hspacing* and *vspacing* in init.c\n\n## Customize using .Xresources / .Xdefaults\n\nHave the .Xresources or.Xdefaults file, based on what your system\nreads when logging in to X11 session, or read it manually.\n\nThe file could look like this:\n\n\t*font: -xos4-terminus-bold-r-normal--16-160-72-72-c-80-iso10646-1\n\t*foreground: black\n\t*background: #f5efe0\n\t*internalBorder: 4\n\nLoad it:\n\n\t$ xrdb -load ~/.Xdefaults\n\nAnd restart cocowm.\n\n## Running\n\nRunning with 3 columns:\n\n\t$ cocowm 3\n\n## See also\n\n* [mxswm](https://github.com/tleino/mxswm) another window manager by the same\nauthor.\n* [cocovt](https://github.com/tleino/cocovt) terminal emulator by the same\nauthor that is friends with *cocowm*.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Ftleino%2Fcocowm","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Ftleino%2Fcocowm","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Ftleino%2Fcocowm/lists"}
