It uses the [Git Changelog Lib](https://github.com/tomasbjerre/git-changelog-lib).\n\nThis is a Java application (runnable `jar`) packaged into an `NPM` package for convenience.\n\n- The runnable `jar` can be found in [Maven Central](http://search.maven.org/#search%7Cga%7C1%7Ca%3A%22git-changelog-command-line%22) and used like `java -jar git-changelog-command-line-*.jar ....`.\n- The `npm` package can be found in [NPM](https://www.npmjs.com/package/git-changelog-command-line).\n- The `Docker` image can be found in [Dockerhub](https://hub.docker.com/r/tomasbjerre/git-changelog-command-line) and used like `docker run --mount src=\"$(pwd)\",target=/usr/src/git-changelog-command-line,type=bind tomasbjerre/git-changelog-command-line:X --help`.\n\n| Version                  | Java Version |\n| ------------------------ | ------------ |\n| version \u003c 2.0.0          | 8            |\n| 2.0.0 \u003c= version \u003c 2.3.0 | 11           |\n| 2.3.0 \u003c= version         | 17           |\n\n## Example - Simple\n\nA changelog can be created like this.\n\n```shell\nnpx git-changelog-command-line -std\n```\n\nOr, you can specify a template:\n\n```shell\nnpx git-changelog-command-line -std -tec \"\n# Changelog\n\nChangelog.\n\n{{#tags}}\n## {{name}}\n {{#issues}}\n  {{#hasIssue}}\n   {{#hasLink}}\n### {{name}} [{{issue}}]({{link}}) {{title}} {{#hasIssueType}} *{{issueType}}* {{/hasIssueType}} {{#hasLabels}} {{#labels}} *{{.}}* {{/labels}} {{/hasLabels}}\n   {{/hasLink}}\n   {{^hasLink}}\n### {{name}} {{issue}} {{title}} {{#hasIssueType}} *{{issueType}}* {{/hasIssueType}} {{#hasLabels}} {{#labels}} *{{.}}* {{/labels}} {{/hasLabels}}\n   {{/hasLink}}\n  {{/hasIssue}}\n  {{^hasIssue}}\n### {{name}}\n  {{/hasIssue}}\n\n  {{#commits}}\n**{{{messageTitle}}}**\n\n{{#messageBodyItems}}\n * {{.}}\n{{/messageBodyItems}}\n\n[{{hash}}](https://github.com/{{ownerName}}/{{repoName}}/commit/{{hash}}) {{authorName}} *{{commitTime}}*\n\n  {{/commits}}\n\n {{/issues}}\n{{/tags}}\n\"\n```\n\n## Example - Semantic versioning from conventional commits\n\nIf you are using [conventional commits](https://www.conventionalcommits.org/en/v1.0.0/):\n\n```shell\n\u003ctype\u003e[optional scope]: \u003cdescription\u003e\n\n[optional body]\n\n[optional footer(s)]\n```\n\nThe highest version can be determined with:\n\n```shell\n\nhighestTag=$(npx git-changelog-command-line \\\n --print-highest-version-tag)\n\necho Last release detected as $highestTag\n```\n\nYou can also get the tag with `--print-highest-version-tag`. Highest version may be `1.2.3` and highest tag may be `v1.2.3`.\n\nNext version to release can be determined with:\n\n```shell\nnextVersion=$(npx git-changelog-command-line \\\n --print-next-version)\n\necho Next release based on commits is: $nextVersion\n```\n\nThere are default patterns, but you can specify the patterns with:\n\n- `--major-version-pattern REGEXP`\n- `--minor-version-pattern REGEXP`\n- `--patch-version-pattern REGEXP`\n\nBy default it will match anything as patch, like `chore: whatever` and not only `fix: whatever`. You can change that with:\n\n```shell\nhighestVersion=$(npx git-changelog-command-line \\\n --print-highest-version)\n\nhighestVersionTag=$(npx git-changelog-command-line \\\n --print-highest-version-tag)\n\ncurrentVersion=$(npx git-changelog-command-line \\\n --patch-version-pattern \"^fix.*\" \\\n --print-current-version)\n\nif [ -z \"$highestVersionTag\" ]; then\n  echo \"This is the first version in the repo, using 0.0.1 as version\"\n  currentVersion=0.0.1\nelse if [ \"$currentVersion\" == \"$highestVersion\" ]; then\n    echo \"No changes made that can be released\"\nelse\n    echo \"Changes detected and a new $currentVersion release can be made\"\nfi\n```\n\nA changelog can be rendered (using [Helpers](https://github.com/tomasbjerre/git-changelog-lib#Helpers)) like this:\n\n```shell\nnpx git-changelog-command-line \\\n --to-ref HEAD \\\n --stdout \\\n --template-content \"\n# Changelog\n\n{{#tags}}\n{{#ifReleaseTag .}}\n## [{{name}}](https://github.com/tomasbjerre/someproject/compare/{{name}}) ({{tagDate .}})\n\n  {{#ifContainsType commits type='feat'}}\n### Features\n\n    {{#commits}}\n      {{#ifCommitType . type='feat'}}\n - {{#eachCommitScope .}} **{{.}}** {{/eachCommitScope}} {{{commitDescription .}}} ([{{hash}}](https://github.com/tomasbjerre/someproject/commit/{{hashFull}}))\n      {{/ifCommitType}}\n    {{/commits}}\n  {{/ifContainsType}}\n\n  {{#ifContainsType commits type='fix'}}\n### Bug Fixes\n\n    {{#commits}}\n      {{#ifCommitType . type='fix'}}\n - {{#eachCommitScope .}} **{{.}}** {{/eachCommitScope}} {{{commitDescription .}}} ([{{hash}}](https://github.com/tomasbjerre/someproject/commit/{{hashFull}}))\n      {{/ifCommitType}}\n    {{/commits}}\n  {{/ifContainsType}}\n\n{{/ifReleaseTag}}\n{{/tags}}\n\"\n```\n\nOr you can prepend to the current changelog. You may get `$nextVersion` from `--print-next-version` and `$highestTag` from `--print-highest-version-tag`.
