See [docs/gpl.txt](docs/gpl.txt) for details.\n\nParts of the software use different licenses which are listed\nin file [LICENSE](LICENSE.md).\n\n\nSummary\n-------\n\nEvery email ALMA sends can be printed by a custom printer within your\nlocal network. \"Request Letters\", \"Resource Slips\", \"Reminders\" or other emails\nthat are received by the server are directly forwarded to the APE script.\n\nThe APE script parses incoming HTML emails and converts them to PDF. The\ngenerated PDF file can be printed out on any user-defined printer.\n\nAPE mainly supports two functions:\n\n * direct print (prints email immediately)\n * queue-controlled print (prints collected emails by cronjob)\n\nAPE has a simple and directory based file structure. Configuration changes can\neasily be made by editing text files.\n\nAdditionally APE offers functions like caching emails in a temp directory.\nIt even has a print history, logging mechanisms and a print preview\nfor the best possible transparency.\n\n\nHard \u0026 Software requirements\n----------------------------\n\nAPE was built on a Debian server system, but can be installed on any other\nWindows or Linux system that is able to run an SMTP and web server as well.\n\nThe description beneath covers the software requirements of a Linux based\nenvironment:\n\n * SMTP active and running\n * Apache2 or similar\n * PHP 7.4 or 8.0\n * PHP Mime Mail Parser\n * CUPS\n * WeasyPrint\n\n\nInstallation\n------------\n\nMannheim University Library develops and installs APE as a web application\non a Linux server running Debian GNU Linux (Bullseye).
