Individual identification\nnumbers (IDs) are the keys to retrieve information on individuals and\nrelationships. The package includes a few basic functions to navigate\nthe virtual population database. They retrieve information on mothers,\nfathers, partners, children, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. They\nalso retrieve information on grandparents, great-grandparents and their\noffspring. The individual information is limited to date of birth, date\nof death, and IDs of partner, mother, father and children.\n\nThe multi-generation virtual population offers opportunities to map\nsocial (family) networks and to adopt different perspectives on\npopulation, including the perspective of a child or an elderly person.\nThe vignette *Families\\_Virtual* describes\nthe package and illustrates its use.
