It's very similar to (and\nis based on) [gitmoji-cli] but written in Rust.\n\n## Installation\n\n### Fedora (\u003e= 37)\n\n```bash\nsudo dnf install gimoji\n```\n\n### Other OSes\n\n```bash\ncargo install -f gimoji\n```\n\n## Usage\n\n`gimoji` is primarily intended to be used as a git `prepare-commit-msg` hook. Once installed, ask\n`gimoji` to install the hook in your repository:\n\n```bash\ncd /path/to/your/project/\ngimoji --init\n```\n\nNow, whenever you run `git commit`, `gimoji` will kick in and prompt you to choose an emoji.\n\nIf you launch `gimoji` directly without any arguments, it will prompt you to choose an emoji and\nthen copy your choice to the system clipboard.\n\nUse `--help` to see all the available options.\n\n### `lefthook`\n\nIf you'd prefer to use [lefthook], you may add something like the following to your `.lefthook.toml`:\n\n```toml\n[prepare-commit-msg.commands.gimoji]\ninteractive = true\nrun = \"gimoji --hook {1} {2} || true\"\nuse_stdin = true\n```\n\nRemember to `lefthook install` to activate your hooks.\n\n## Rationale\n\n[gitmoji-cli] while being a great tool, can be considerably [slow]. Hence this project. `gimoji` has a\nfew differences:\n\n* it will launch a full-screen terminal UI to choose an emoji, hence emojis on the console.\n* it will only add an emoji prefix to the commit if one is not already present in the commit\n  message (e.g when using  `-m` option of `git commit`, or when amending a commit).\n* it does not add anything other than an emoji (like scope, summary etc.) to the commit message and\n  lets you do that in your preferred editor.\n* Unlike [gitmoji-cli] that downloads and caches its emoji database at runtime, `gimoji` uses a\n  pre-compiled database that is included in the binary itself, hence it's much faster to start up\n  and does not need Internet access.\n\nThe philosophy here is to enable you to quickly and easily choose an emoji and get out of your way.\n\n## License\n\n[MIT](LICENSE)\n\n[gitmoji]: https://github.com/carloscuesta/gitmoji\n[gitmoji-cli]: https://github.com/carloscuesta/gitmoji-cli\n[lefthook]: https://lefthook.dev/\n[slow]: https://github.com/carloscuesta/gitmoji-cli/issues/1096\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fzeenix%2Fgimoji","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fzeenix%2Fgimoji","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fzeenix%2Fgimoji/lists"}
