# examples-cloudcode

## What is Cloud Code?

brainCloud allows developers to write custom [Cloud Code](https://getbraincloud.com/apidocs/apiref/#cc) routines in JavaScript, that reside and run on the brainCloud servers, allowing execution of code more securely and efficiently than if it were run client-side.

brainCloud uses the [Mozilla Rhino](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Projects/Rhino) engine to run scripts.

Scripts can be quickly written and tested via the [**Design | Cloud Code | Scripts**](https://portal.braincloudservers.com/login#/development/serverscripts-edit) page of the Design Portal.
