# edengths - LaTeX PhD Thesis Template

## ABOUT

This is a Latex2e template which corresponds to the
regulations regarding layout of a thesis submitted within the University
of Edinburgh. It is **not official**, but conforms as best as possible to the
regulation as detailed at:

[The University of Edinburgh Academic Services](http://www.ed.ac.uk/academic-services/students/thesis-submission)

Please feel free to alter the template to your own liking, but note that
the template is made available under the GNU GPL and must be similarly
licensed should you wish to release your modified template.

An example of the compiled template is available [here](https://h0r5e.github.io/edengths/edengths.pdf).

A version of this template that uses the nomencl package for adding a
nomenclature can be found on the [nomencl](https://github.com/H0R5E/edengths/tree/nomencl)
branch.

If you are interested in using this template with [Quarto](https://quarto.org/)
then check out Nick Hood's fork
[edengths-quarto](https://github.com/NixImagery/edengths-quarto/).

## USAGE

The main file with this package is edengths.tex. It contains information about
how to configure the package in the comments. The main package options are
entered after the comment "LOAD DOCUMENT CLASS"

For information regarding compiling the package please see the supporting
documentation at
[www.dataonlygreater.com](https://www.dataonlygreater.com/blog/post/edengths/).

## CREDITS

This template is an amalgamation of an existing Edinburgh University,
Electrical Engineering PhD Thesis class file (jthesis-v1.cls) authored by
George S Taylor which was released under the GNU GPL.
Code is included from the dmathesis class Written by M. Imran
for a thesis according to the university of Durham regulation, which was
released without copyright. It also contains ideas (possibly code) from the
Princeton thesis class file (PrincetonThesis.cls), authored by Mike Nolta.

Mathew Topper, Eoghan Maguire and Bill Edwards, of the Institute of Energy
Systems in the University of Edinburgh, foresaw the need to maintain a
more recent latex implementation of the university thesis regulations and thus,
this project was born. It is hoped that the template will be maintained by the
University of Edinburgh PhD community once released.
