About SlapOS
------------
SlapOS is an overlay operating system designed for managing distributed
POSIX-compliant infrastructures such as Linux and xBSD systems. It is
released as Free Software under a permissive license and is adept at
automating a wide range of cloud-based services—including IaaS, PaaS,
SaaS, and more—along with hyperconverged infrastructure, edge computing,
and network management for 4G/5G systems. SlapOS facilitates
comprehensive service management through automation of provisioning,
orchestration, monitoring, and other maintenance tasks across diverse
deployment scenarios, including data centers, edge nodes, and embedded
systems. The architecture of SlapOS is influenced by the concepts of
convergence and grid coordination, posited by Professors Mark Burgess
and Christophe Cérin, respectively. It features a minimalistic recursive
structure with two main components: the SlapOS Master, which maintains a
common state across the infrastructure, and the SlapOS Node, which
autonomously ensures each node’s state aligns with the master
configuration.
