English and Lingala: `apertium-eng-lin`
===============================================================================

This is an Apertium language pair for translating between English and
Lingala. What you can use this language package for:

* Translating between English and Lingala
* Morphological analysis of English and Lingala
* Part-of-speech tagging of English and Lingala

For information on the latter two points, see subheading "For more
information" below.

Requirements
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You will need the following software installed:

* lttoolbox (>= 3.3.0)
* apertium (>= 3.3.0)
* vislcg3 (>= 0.9.9.10297)
* hfst (>= 3.8.2)
* apertium-eng
* apertium-lin(https://github.com/thefreezer/apertium-lin)

If this does not make any sense, we recommend you look at: apertium.org.

Compiling
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Given the requirements being installed, you should be able to just run:

```console
$ ./configure
$ make
# make install
```

You can use `./autogen.sh` instead of `./configure` in case you're compiling
from source. If you installed any prerequisite language packages using a
`--prefix` with `./configure`, make sure to use the same `--prefix` when running
`./configure` here.

Testing
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Current dictionary*: Bidix has about 130 unique entries. I added approximately 95% of words from the story(https://sourceforge.net/p/apertium/svn/HEAD/tree/branches/xupaixkar/rasskaz/en.txt)

Total of *8 rules* which give correct translations for:
1. prn/np vblex/vbhaver/vbser det n (eg. I see a house) with correct present and past(saw) verb tenses
2. prn/np vblex/vbhaver/vbser pr det adj n(eg. Mary eats in the beautiful garden)
3. and other rules for dealing with the infitive form of a verb, and handling the pro-drop behavior of the language.

(*I'll have to create a documentation/wiki later on to list all these rules*)

If you are in the source directory after running make, the following
commands should work:

```console
$ echo "TODO test sentence 1" | apertium -d . eng-lin
TODO test translated sentence 1
$ echo "TODO test sentence 2" | apertium -d . lin-eng
TODO test translated sentence 2
```
