Info

Is activated by the postinst script of the kernel. Generates a line in the UEFI boot for the direct loading of the kernel (with efi stub enabled of course) without having to install an additional bootloader.
Installation note
=========
**Prerequisites:**
- a system with efi working (partition, any bootloader etc)
- a kernel with efi stub (Recent kernels are usually compiled with the right options, I added some further information below)
- a Debian (cause I'm lazy and I tried it on Debian only)
- a little knowledge of how the chain efi boot and how to use efibootmgr (always check the result of the script, you have been warned)
**Install:**
```sh
git clone git://github.com/autoscatto/efiqo.git
su
make install
vi /etc/default/efiqo (to edit your config)
```
**Uninstall:**
```sh
su
make uninstall
```
Kernel
=========
The default kernel debian is already compiled with efi support.
In case you have an autocompiled kernel that you make sure it has the efi stub enabled
```sh
Processor type and features --->
[*] EFI runtime service support
[*] EFI stub support
```
For the sake:
```sh
CONFIG_EFI_PARTITION=y
CONFIG_EFI=y
CONFIG_EFI_STUB=y
CONFIG_FB_EFI=y
CONFIG_EFI_VARS=y
CONFIG_EFI_VARS_PSTORE=y
```
**Trouble:**
It seems that in more recent kernel there is a regression and efibootmgr not be able to write the efi vars. I could not understand which version this bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1167567) was introduced. I can only assure you that up to version 3.6.5 the bug does not occur, and certainly occurs in version 3.8. * and later. (also: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?format=multiple&id=922275)
Unfortunately if efibootmgr can not edit the variables fails silently, so if during a kernel update efiqo seems to end successfully, but no new entry appears and dmesg shows `efivars: set_variable () failed: status = 8000000000000009` congratulations, you have discovered the bug.
if someone finds a solution (that does not involve using a version of the kernel that is not affected by the bug), please let me know.
