![](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BBC-Data-Unit/counterfeit-goods/master/fakes%20and%20phonies%20infographic.png)
In July 2016 [we reported on the extent of the trade in fake goods in England's biggest cities](http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35925119).
The data came from Freedom of Information requests to local authorities across the country.

Dan Wainwright created an **interactive map** of counterfeit goods seized in the biggest cities. You can [explore that here](https://public.tableau.com/profile/daniel.wainwright4535#!/vizhome/shared/KG3B7N9G7).
## Get the data
* A [CSV spreadsheet showing each seizure of counterfeit goods showing the area, postcode, type, quantity, and unit of measurement is available in this GitHub repo here](https://github.com/BBC-Data-Unit/counterfeit-goods/blob/master/Items%20seized%20by%20trading%20standards%20across%20England's%20biggest%20cities%20-%20Counterfeit%20seizures.csv)
* The same data is [also available in a Google spreadsheet here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eykewTxWuwNCqrrTOlCCQ1xWLhkfTWnEQqdfckjwajs/edit#gid=0)## Background documents
* The [wording of the Freedom of Information request](https://github.com/BBC-Data-Unit/counterfeit-goods/blob/master/FOI.md) used for the story, and the [template spreadsheet](https://github.com/BBC-Data-Unit/counterfeit-goods/blob/master/FOI%20response%20template%20counterfeit%20goods.xlsx) sent with that.
* The latest [UK Intellectual Property Crime Report](https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/461792/ip-crime-report-2014-15.pdf) was used in reporting the story## Charts
