# Homes 'too expensive' for Help to Buy Isa scheme

Our investigation in June 2016 found that [would-be-homeowners in large parts of England are being priced out of a government scheme to help first-time buyers](http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-36424548). Over a million people viewed the story within its first 24 hours and at lunchtime over 100,000 people were viewing the story at the same time. It also trended on Twitter.
A comments form added to the story attracted over 400 comments and led to a [follow up piece on readers' stories](http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-36576068). Engagement time on this and the original story was above average.

## Get the data
Data was taken from the property website Zoopla at the start of June 2016. The [browse facility](http://www.zoopla.co.uk/house-prices/) offers a way to go into each area, then sub-area, and then town. Areas with fewer than 10 properties for sale were omitted, as were those where averages were skewed by one particularly highly priced property.
