# Are prisons becoming more dangerous places?
In October 2016 [we reported on an increase in violence in prisons](http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-37702964).

It is worth noting that although assaults go up as officer numbers go down, there is no significant correlation between the two: the correlation coefficient is 0.2.
