# BIIGLE for Beginners

A tutorial for [BIIGLE](https://biigle.de), a web-based platform for annotating images and videos.

BIIGLE is a free and open-source platform for annotating images and videos from scientific surveys. Applications range from marine imagery by remotely operated vehicles, drop cameras, or autonomous underwater vehicles to terrestrial imagery and microscopy.

This tutorial teaches the complete beginner workflow: from creating a user account, through setting up projects and annotating data, to exporting the results. Each chapter introduces one concept, then gives you a hands-on task to solve on [biigle.de](https://biigle.de).

## Target audience

Anyone who is new to BIIGLE and wants to learn how to set up their own annotation projects and how to annotate.

## Required time

Completing the tutorial takes less than 2 hours (excluding waiting time, see below).

> [!IMPORTANT]
> New users and uploaded files on [biigle.de](https://biigle.de) must be approved by an admin. This usually takes no more than one business day. Please take the waiting time into account when you start the tutorial.
