Pronouns: "ce", or "il"
Ce | neuter demonstrative pronoun
Invariable demonstrative pronoun that represents a noun, an infinitive, or a proposition. It designates what is being talked about. Faites ce que je vous dis et non ce que je fais. | Do what I tell you to, and not what I do. | Aujourd'hui, c'est le premier jour du printemps. | Today, it's the first day of spring.

Impersonal subject
Ce + consonant. Ce sera une belle journée. | It will be a nice day.

C' + vowel. C'était hier. | It was yesterday. | Ç'aurait pu être très agréable. | It could have been very pleasant.

Before a vowel, the pronoun elides into c' (ç' before an a or o).

– C'EST

C'est + signular noun. C'est une jolie maison. | It's a nice house.

C'est + moi, toi, lui, elle, nous, or vous. C'est nous qui viendrons. | It's us who will come.

C'est + que. C'est à compter de demain que les prix augmentent. | It's as of tomorrow that the prices increase.

C'est + quantity. C'est 5 € le kilo. | It's €5 a kilo.

– CE SONT

Ce sont + plural noun. Ce sont des tulipes. | They're tulips.

Ce sont + eux, or elles. Ce sont elles qui ont le mieux répondu. | It's them who answered best.

Ce ne sont pas + eux, or elles. Ce ne sont pas eux qui ont payé. | It's not them who payed.

Il | masculin/neuter personal pronoun
– IL EST

Il est + time. Il est 15 heures. | It's 3 PM. | Il est trop tôt. | It's too early.

Il est + adjective. Il est important que tu viennes. | It's important that you come.

Neuter personal pronoun
Used to introduce:

– An impersonal verb. Il neige. | It's snowing.

– A verb used impersonally. Il paraît qu'il fera beau demain. | It seems that the weather will be nice tomorrow.
