## 💾 Vector Database Implementation

### Overview

RhythmAI supports **dual vector database** implementations: **ChromaDB** (default) and **FAISS**, providing flexibility between ease-of-use and performance.

### Choosing a Vector Store

| Feature | ChromaDB | FAISS |
|---------|----------|-------|
| **Speed** | Fast (<50ms for 10K songs) | Ultra-fast (10-100x faster) |
| **Metadata Filtering** | Native support | Manual implementation |
| **Setup** | Zero configuration | Minimal configuration |
| **Scalability** | Good (10K-100K songs) | Excellent (millions of vectors) |
| **Memory Usage** | Moderate | Low |
| **Best For** | General use, development | Production, large datasets |

Switch between stores by setting `VECTOR_STORE=chroma` or `VECTOR_STORE=faiss` in `.env`.

### Key Components

#### 1. **Embedding Generation**
```python
Model: sentence-transformers/all-MiniLM-L6-v2
Dimensions: 384
Training: Multi-lingual, optimized for semantic similarity
```

#### 2. **Vector Storage**
- **Engine**: ChromaDB with HNSW indexing
- **Distance Metric**: Cosine similarity
- **Persistence**: Local filesystem storage
- **Metadata**: Genre, artist, mood, URL, description

#### 3. **Search Operations**

**Semantic Search Example:**
```python
query = "I need energetic music for working out"
embedding = embedder.encode(query) # 384D vector
results = vector_db.search(embedding, n_results=10)
# Returns: Top 10 most similar songs by cosine distance
```

**Filtered Search:**
```python
# Search within specific genre
results = vector_db.search_by_genre(
query_embedding=embedding,
genre="electronic",
n_results=5
)
```

### Vectorization Process

1. **Text Description** → Clean and normalize
2. **Tokenization** → BERT tokenizer
3. **Encoding** → 384D sentence embedding
4. **Normalization** → L2 norm for cosine similarity
5. **Storage** → ChromaDB with metadata

### Performance Metrics

- **Embedding Speed**: ~100 texts/second (CPU)
- **Search Latency**: <50ms for 10K songs
- **Index Size**: ~1.5MB per 1000 songs
- **Precision@10**: >85% relevance

---

## 🚀 Installation

### Prerequisites

- Python 3.9 or higher
- pip package manager
- 4GB RAM minimum (8GB recommended)
- 2GB free disk space

### Step 1: Clone Repository

```bash
git clone https://github.com/cesarsm24/rhythmai.git
cd rhythmai
```

### Step 2: Create Virtual Environment

```bash
# Create virtual environment
python -m venv venv
# Activate (Windows)
venv\Scripts\activate
# Activate (macOS/Linux)
### Step 4: Configure Environment
Create `.env` file in project root:
```env
# Vector Store Selection
VECTOR_STORE=chroma # Options: "chroma" or "faiss"
CHROMA_DB_PATH=./chroma_db
FAISS_DB_PATH=./faiss_db

# AI Models
EMBEDDING_MODEL=sentence-transformers/all-MiniLM-L6-v2

### Usage Examples

#### Encrypt String Data

```python
from rhythmai.utils.security import DataEncryption
encryptor = DataEncryption("your_master_password")
# Encrypt
sensitive_data = "user_api_token_xyz123"
encrypted = encryptor.encrypt_string(sensitive_data)
# Decrypt
decrypted = encryptor.decrypt_string(encrypted)
```

#### Encrypt Dictionary/JSON

```python
user_profile = {
"user_id": "user123",
# Encrypt a file
encryptor.encrypt_file("user_data.json", "user_data.enc")
# Decrypt a file
encryptor.decrypt_file("user_data.enc", "user_data.json")
```

#### Secure Storage System

```python
from rhythmai.utils.security import SecureStorage
storage = SecureStorage("master_password")
# Save encrypted
storage.save_secure("user_profile", user_data_dict)
# Load decrypted
profile = storage.load_secure("user_profile")
# Delete
storage.delete_secure("user_profile")
```

### Security Best Practices

1. ✅ **Never commit** `.env` files to version control
2. ✅ **Use strong passwords** for `RHYTHM_MASTER_KEY` (32+ characters)
3. ✅ **Rotate API keys** every 90 days
4. ✅ **Enable HTTPS** in production deployments
5. ✅ **Implement rate limiting** for API endpoints
6. ✅ **Regular security audits** of dependencies

## 🐛 Troubleshooting

### Common Issues

#### Issue: "Module not found" errors
**Solution**: Ensure virtual environment is activated and dependencies installed:
```bash
source venv/bin/activate # or venv\Scripts\activate on Windows
pip install -r requirements.txt
```

#### Issue: Deezer API connection issues
**Solution**:
1. Verify internet connection
2. Check Deezer API status
3. Ensure firewall allows connections

#### Issue: ChromaDB crashes or corrupts
**Solution**:
```bash
rm -rf chroma_db/ # Delete database
python scripts/populate_db.py # Rebuild
```

#### Issue: Slow performance
**Solution**:
1. Enable GPU if available (`USE_GPU=true` in `.env`)
2. Reduce `n_results` parameter
3. Clear conversation memory periodically
