# Groundwater access and loss in the San Joaquin Valley
By Gabrielle LaMarr LeMee
This analysis was developed for the November 16, 2021 Los Angeles Times story "A frenzy of well drilling is depleting aquifers in California farmland."
It looks at agriculture well drilling trends, groundwater level declines and prevalence of dry wells across the San Joaquin Valley basin.
The analysis uses the California Department of Water Resources' Well Completion Reports database, Periodic Groundwater Measurements and Household Shortage Reports.
