# Masers
This repository includes files used in research leading to the AAS presentation: _A Statistical Investigation of the Connection between X-ray and Water Maser Emission in Galaxy Centers_. The abstract for this presentation is available at Harvard's SAO/NASA ADS database: http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2014AAS...22325109N/. I am making my work available in order to assist my former research group and promote scientific progress.

I had some problems uploading my data sets to Github because the files were too large, so I ran various versions of this command: ```find . -type f -name '*.dat' -exec rm {} +``` to remove about 800 files with extensions .dat, .csv, .tsv, .asc, .asc.txt, .xco, .strings, .xco (left model only), .fits, .out (binary), and .sav (binary). All of my tables (except for the original catalog sources which you can download elsewhere) are outdated anyway, and I left the .eps and .pdf plots, so you can verify the results with more up to date data using my code. Most of the remaining files should be code and notes. If you really need to see my old tables, just send me an e-mail or submit an issue.

## Organization
These are my personal files in exactly the condition I had them during my undergraduate research. There is a lot of redundancy, and files may be named confusingly because it was my personal work in progress containing many drafts and slightly varied iterations of certain concepts and data sets. Also, there may be many empty directories since I removed the data tables (see above). There is a lot of work here that has not been perfected because it was a quick solution for a specific task. If I were to return to this research now as a better coder, I would make a lot of changes. I'll leave that to you.

You will find several files with ".t" or ".tt" file extensions. These are essentially ".txt" files that I named differently in order to customize my text editor's syntax recognition. Your best bet would be to look over notes2.tt which provides information about most of the files within this repository. Try searching for file or directory names in that file for more information.

The two new files I created this year are pull-mcp.sh, which is the best way I came up with of creating appropriately formatted local tables of detected masers and all-surveyed, and notes-2015.txt which explains how to filter out detections from all-surveyed using SQL. The script automatically downloads the table from the MCP website.
