README

This file explains all settings and their implications in blow.ini.

== [FiSH] section ==

* Name: process_incoming
Value: 0 or 1
Default: 1
Enables/disables processing (decryption) of incoming IRC messages (topics, notices, etc.).
You will generally not want to disable this.

* Name: process_outgoing
Value: 0 or 1
Default: 1
Enables/disables processing (encryption) of messages (topics, notices, etc.) sent to IRC.
You will generally not want to disable this.

* Name: plain_prefix
Value (example): "PLAIN "
Default: "+p "
IRC messages starting with this prefix will not be encypted, even if the channel/user is
equipped with an active key. You usually want to include a trailing space in this setting,
so you have to put the entire thing in quotation marks. Evaluated case-sensitively.
Example:
/msg #chan Hi, I will be encrypted!
/msg #chan PLAIN Hi, I won't be encrypted...

* Name: encrypt_action
Value: 0 or 1
Default: 0
Whether to encrypt actions you send (e.g. /me says hi!).

* Name: encrypt_notice
Value: 0 or 1
Default: 0
Whether to encrypt notices you send (e.g. /notice MyFriend check this: www.example.org/secret).

* Name: mark_encrypted
Value: Crypt mark string
Default: (no default)
Whether to add a (usually short) string to crypted messages so they can be distinguished from
plain text messages more easily. You can use $chr(N) and $+ (mIRC syntax) here.

* Name: mark_position
Value: 1, 2 or 0
Default: 0
Defines the position where the string from mark_encrypted will be added to the crypted message.
1 means append, 2 means prepend and 0 disables the crypt mark entirely.

* Name: MyIP_service
Value: a URL
Default: (no default)
Add a website URL or host name like one of these here:
checkip.dyndns.org / iplookup.flashfxp.com / ip4.me / www.ipchicken.com / ifconfig.me
Used by FiSH's "Local IP" menu to determine your external IP address (e.g. for DCC).

* Name: no_legacy
Value: 0 or 1
Default: 0
This setting speeds up FiSH processing a little at the expense of destroying backwards
compatibility to old blow.ini files. You should always use it when creating a new blow.ini file.
Here are the changes in detail:
- Use UTF-8 mode for blow.ini file instead of ACP mode (system code page mode)
- On key updates, write [$network:$contact] sections only, omit [$contact] backwards compatibility entry.
- Do not read from [$contact] sections, only try [$network:$contact].
[$network:$contact] will be prefered if no_legacy isn't 1, and [$contact] will be used as fallback.
You can not change this setting on the fly (while mIRC is running), you need to restart mIRC to have it take effect.

* Name: enforce_max_key_length
Value: 0 or 1
Default: 1
The maximum defined key length for blowfish is 448 bits or 56 bytes:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowfish_%28cipher%29#The_algorithm
However, some other clients and also FiSH10 in older versions did not enforce this limit. To allow longer keys,
set this option to zero. If you have the chance to, it's better to instead change your key(s) (which is always a
good idea) and use a new one with 56 bytes max.

== Contact sections, e.g. [#chan], [EFNet:#fish10] or [duude] ==

* Name: key
Value: (the blowfish key)
Default: (no default)
If the value of this setting starts with +OK, the rest of the message will be decrypted using the hardcoded
blow.ini blowfish key. If it doesn't, it will be assumed that the key is deposited in plain text.

* Name: cbc
Value: 0 or 1
Default: 0
If this is 1, messages to this contact will be encrypted in CBC mode (more secure) by default. If it isn't, the
standard ECB mode will be used. This only affects outgoing messages, the mode of incoming messages will always
be detected automatically and treated appropriately.

* Name: mark_encrypted
Value: 0 or 1
Default: 1 if global mark_encrypted is non-empty, 0 otherwise
You can use mark_encrypted = 0 to turn off the crypt mark on incoming messages for this contact.

* Name: encrypt_topic
Value: 0 or 1
Default: 0
Defines whether topics you set for this contact (which has to be a channel) will be encrypted or not.

* Name: date
Value: DD/MM/YYYY
Updated whenever a new key is set. Not used for anything else.
