# List of WordPress development resources

This is a list of "all" resources that are needed to extend WordPress as developers. This compilation is of course not complete and needs the community to grow. That is why pull requests are very welcome.

## Development in general

- **[WordPress Developer Resources](https://developer.wordpress.org/)** - Official developer documentation from the WordPress team.
- **[WordPress on Stack Exchange](https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/)** - WordPress Development Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for WordPress developers and administrators. It only takes a minute to sign up.
- **[REST API Handbook](https://developer.wordpress.org/rest-api/)** - The WordPress REST API provides an interface for applications to interact with your WordPress site by sending and receiving data as JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) objects.
- **[Official Docker image](https://hub.docker.com/_/wordpress)** - The official docker image for local development including docker-compose file with mysql and webserver.

## Plugin development in general

- **[Plugin Handbook](https://developer.wordpress.org/plugins/)** - The Plugin Developer Handbook is a resource for all things WordPress plugins. Whether you’re new to WordPress plugin development, or you’re an experienced plugin developer, you should be able to find the answer to many of your plugin-related questions right here.
- **[WordPress.org plugin directory](https://wordpress.org/plugins/)** - The official WordPress plugin directory. For every plugin developer it should be the goal to be listed in this directory as it is the number #1 source for plugin installations.
- **[Detailed Plugin Guidelines](https://developer.wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-org/detailed-plugin-guidelines/)** - The official WordPress guidelines for wordpress.org. It contains all rules for plugins relating the WordPress plugin directory.

- **[Plugin boilerplate generator](https://wppb.me/)** - To speed up the development process for new plugins it can be helpful to start with a boilerplate that already includes the main WordPress functionality. This is a service that creates those plates.
- **[Mozart](https://github.com/coenjacobs/mozart/)** - Wraps all your projects dependencies in your own namespace, in order to prevent conflicts with other plugins loading the same dependencies in different versions.
