# s3-account-copy
Provides a quick and easy way to safely copy AWS S3 buckets from one account to another using Cloudformation and the AWS CLI.
## Prerequisites
The following items are required before running the instructions below:
* 2 - Amazon Web Services accounts
* 2 - S3 buckets (one bucket in each account)
* Cloudformation, S3, and IAM access in both accounts
* AWS CLI
## Instructions
Follow the instructions below to copy data from an S3 bucket in the *"source"* account to an S3 bucket in the *"destination"* account.
1. In the *destination* account, run the `destination-account.cf` Cloudformation template.
2. Make note of the "AWSAccessKeyId" and "AWSSecretkey" created by the template. These values can be found in the "Outputs" tab of the template once it has successfully completed.
3. In the *source* account, run the `source-account.cf` Cloudformation template.
4. Run the following command to configure your AWS CLI to use the "AWSAccessKeyId" and "AWSSecretkey" you made note of in step 2:
```
aws configure
```
5. Run the following command to copy the data in the *source* bucket to the *destination* bucket:
```
aws s3 cp s3://{source S3 bucket name} s3://{destination S3 bucket name} --recursive
```
6. Once the copy has completed you can safely delete both the *source* and *destination* Cloudformation templates to clean up.
