### Performance Issues
If you experience performance degradation:
1. **Check Settings**: Ensure optimizations are enabled
```json
{
"hledger.optimization.enableAsyncParsing": true,
"hledger.optimization.enableOptimizedFuzzyMatching": true
}
```2. **Clear Cache**: Use Command Palette → "HLedger: Invalidate All Caches"

```json
{
"hledger.optimization.asyncChunkSize": 500,
"hledger.cache.maxSize": 500
}
```### Cache Issues
If caching behaves unexpectedly:
1. **Check File Watching**: Ensure patterns are correctly configured
2. **Verify Permissions**: Confirm VS Code can monitor file changes
3. **Review Logs**: Check "HLedger Optimization" output channel
4. **Export Diagnostics**: Use "HLedger: Show Cache Diagnostics"### Large File Handling
For very large journal files (>10MB):
1. **Enable Async Processing**: Set `enableAsyncParsing: true`
2. **Adjust Chunk Size**: Reduce `asyncChunkSize` to 500-1000
3. **Increase Memory Limits**: Use `maxFileSize` up to 100MB
4. **Monitor Performance**: Enable performance monitoring### Smart Indentation
Smart indentation helps format transactions correctly:
- **Setting**: `hledger.smartIndent.enabled` (default: `true`)
- **Auto-indent**: Pressing Enter after a transaction date automatically indents for posting entries
- **Preserve indent**: Maintains proper indentation when continuing posting entries
- **Context-aware**: Handles different line types (dates, postings, comments) appropriately## Documentation
