# Dotfiles
These are my dotfiles for ubuntu using i3 on a macbook pro.
Below are some bug fixes and an installation guide for setting everything up.
# Installation
Start off by cloning:
```
$ git clone --recursive git@github.com:kkoomen/dotfiles.git
$ cd dotfiles/
```
Run the following scripts:
- `sh ./scripts/install/install_1.sh` (setting up i3)
- Reboot and login using i3
- `sh ./scripts/install/install_2.sh` (setting up env)
- `sh ./scripts/install/install_3.sh` (apache2, docker etc)
You can update symbolic links with the `./update.sh` script.
##### Disable lightdm
This is so that you get a tty login instead the default ubuntu login. You have to
do this to run ~/.xinitrc and other files on startup.
1. `sudo vim /etc/default/grub`
2. change `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"` to `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="text intel_idle.max_cstate=1"`.
3. run `sudo update-grub`.
4. `sudo systemctl enable multi-user.target --force`
5. `sudo systemctl set-default multi-user.target`
##### Set correct DPI
Add the following to `/etc/profile.d/qt-hidpi.sh` **ONLY** if you disabled lightdm
```sh
export QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=0
export QT_SCALE_FACTOR=1.8
export GDK_SCALE=1.8
export GDK_DPI_SCALE=1.8
```
Don't forget to add `xrandr --dpi 180` to your `~/.xinitrc`.
Firefox
- Go to `about:config` in Firefox
- Set `layout.css.devPixelsPerPx` to `1.5`
Thunderbird
- Go to `Edit → Preferences → Advanced → Config editor`
- Set `layout.css.devPixelsPerPx` to `1.5`
##### QT style inherit from GTK
This should already be fixed in the `scripts/bug_fixes.sh`, but when you have a
clean install you might want to add the following to `~/.config/Trolltech.conf`:
```
[Qt]
style=GTK
```
##### Backlight
In the `bin/` folder there's a brightness script that adjusts your screen
brightness. We need the make it writable for all users.
```
$ sudo su -
$ chmod 0666 /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-eDP-1/intel_backlight/brightness
```
##### Keyboard settings
On default, ubuntu uses `libinput` for touchpad, keyboard and touchscreen
settings. These are located in `/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-libinput.conf`.
To disable horizontal scrolling (which I have on always), put the following
under the touchpad-section:
```
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "libinput touchpad catchall"
...
Option "HorizontalScrolling" "false"
...
EndSection
```
# Troubleshooting
##### GPG error: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available
Replace `` with the key you got in the error.
```
$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys
$ sudo apt-get update
```
##### Thunderbird error: Missing passphrase
Open `~/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf` and change `pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry`
to `pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry-qt` (or anything else that might work for
you, but this one worked for me back then).
##### Laptop automatically wakes up from suspend after 3~5 seconds
Put this in `/etc/rc.local` before `exit 0`:
```
echo XHC1 > /proc/acpi/wakeup # <--- Add this line
exit 0
```
Note that `XHC1` may vary for your system. It worked for me. If this ain't working
then try to disable USB types.
