2. **Command Execution**: Routes commands through WSL2 using `wsl.exe`

## Troubleshooting



### Quick Setup (Recommended)



If you encounter any Nix-related errors, run our automated setup script:

./setup-nix-wsl2.sh

This script will automatically:

- Check your Nix installation

- Add you to the nix-users group (fixes permission errors)

- Start the Nix daemon if needed

- Configure Nix channels (fixes search hangs)

### "WSL2 is not available"



Ensure WSL2 is installed and working:

Install Nix in your WSL2 distribution:

### "experimental Nix feature 'nix-command' is disabled"

First run after Nix channel update takes 30-60 seconds to build database. Subsequent searches are cached and fast (<1s).

**Q: Do I need to know Nix to use NSFW?**

A: No! NSFW hides Nix complexity. Just search and install like any other package manager. The power of Nix (70k packages, perfect isolation) without the learning curve.



**Q: Can I use NSFW without WSL2?**

A: No, NSFW requires WSL2. WSL2 is standard on Windows 11 and easy to enable on Windows 10. Our automated setup script handles the Nix configuration.



**Q: How is this different from Chocolatey or winget?**

A: NSFW has **70,000+ packages** (vs 9k for Chocolatey, 6k for winget) with **perfect isolation** - no version conflicts ever. Plus true reproducibility for research and team collaboration.

**Q: Can I have multiple Node/Python/Go versions installed?**
