async_bench
=======
[![Build
Status](https://travis-ci.org/mcollina/async_bench.png)](https://travis-ci.org/mcollina/async_bench)

The node.js benchmark framework designed around the node callback style.

## Installation

```
npm install async_bench --save
```

## Example

```
var bench = require("async_bench");
var crypto = require("crypto");
var fs = require("fs");
bench({
runs: 10000,
preHeat: 10000,
setup: function(cb) {
fs.readFile(__filename, cb);
},
bench: function(data, cb) {
var shasum = crypto.createHash('sha1');
shasum.update(data);
var d = shasum.digest('hex');
cb();
},
complete: function(err, results) {
if (err)
throw err;
console.log(results);
}
});
```

## Motives

In node, the most popular style for passing callback is:
```
myAsyncFunction(function (err, arg1, arg2, ...) {
// do something
});
```
Where the first argument is the error.
__async_bench__ is the first benchmark
library that adopted this style.

In __async_bench__ all steps are defined using this convention,
and everything is run by the popular
[async](https://github.com/caolan/async) library.

## Contributing to async_bench

* Check out the latest master to make sure the feature hasn't been
implemented or the bug hasn't been fixed yet
* Check out the issue tracker to make sure someone already hasn't
requested it and/or contributed it
* Fork the project
* Start a feature/bugfix branch
* Commit and push until you are happy with your contribution
* Make sure to add tests for it. This is important so I don't break it
in a future version unintentionally.
* Please try not to mess with the Makefile and package.json. If you
want to have your own version, or is otherwise necessary, that is
fine, but please isolate to its own commit so I can cherry-pick around
it.
